Bark Mulch Two local businesswomen will take their work to the streets in an effort to compete with roadside vendors. Nellie Stell and Marilyn Yeo- mans, owners of Bridle Touch, received permission from Scu- gog Council to sell flowers at a roadside location on Monday. A site at Flieler's gas station on Regional Road 2 is their de- sired location, pending written permission from the owners. The partners cited competi- tion from the roadside vendors as the reason for the request. "We don't want to do this, but we have to do this to compete," Ms. Yeomans said. We'd prefer that people come to town and buy flowers from a florist." But under the terms of the township's Hawkers and Ven- dors Bylaw, drafted in 1992, li- cence holders can sell their goods on the street if they obtain a permit. The cost is $100 for lo- cal businesses paying taxes and $300 for those not paying local assessments. The partners suggested this fee be increased for out of town vendors. And it appears council agrees. "The cream is being skimmed off the top at the expense of those paying taxes year-round," said Ward 3 Councillor Ken Gadsden. Council will review the bylaw and make a recommendation in the future. - : Real Estate Limited is pleased to announce that Bruce Peters has chosen to join its group of Real Estate Professionals.
