Several students helped Mr. Bacon out on the auctio- neering end, helping to sell such items as homemade pies. KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRY STAR Several students of Greenbank and Epsom Public School showed their auctioneering skills at a special auction to ben- efit their school playgrounds. The auction, which was a huge success, was held at Neil Bacon Auctions on Friday evening. Auction a success Church and Sunday School will be held in Epsom Church this week starting at 11 a.m., at which time Heather Burton will be our guest speaker to help us celebrate Mother's Day. It was nice to have Rev. John Burton with us this past Sunday. He has been dearly missed as he re- cuperated from recent surgery. Also appreciated was the sing- ing of Michelle LePage, accom- panied by Karen Skelding on the flute. The U.C.W. will meet on Tuesday, May 10 at the home of Betty Tapscott, starting at 1 .m. The word for roll call is "Praise". All ladies are wel- come. Ladies be reminded of the Friendship luncheon of the Goodwood U.C.W. on Monday, May 9 starting at noon. Please take along a baby item. This Friday, starting at 8 p.m., is euchre night in Utica Hall. Come on out and bring a friend. The recent auction in aid of playground equipment for Ep- som School was a huge success, raising approx. $12,000. This was due to a good response from donors, bidders and the commit- tee in charge. There was also a very good response to the order- ing of bedding plants and hang- ing baskets and they expect that profit tobe over $1,000. A belated welcome to Neil and Cathy Bacon and children who, a few months ago, moved into our midst. Congratulations to Cathy Creighton and Greg Butler who were married on Saturday at Port Perry Presbyterian Church with the reception in Utica Hall. This couple live on the 6th Line. Following the re- ception, the Butlers left for a honeymoon in Hawaii. Rela- tives were present from Alberta and Toronto and surrounding areas. Best wishes to Travis Mac- Sween who is to undergo sur- gery on his knee to remove a tu- mor, this Tuesday at Toronto Sick Kids Hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are for him this week and for his recov- ery period. Congratulations to Richard Tracey who did very well in his Kub Kar races, coming second for the 1st Scugog-Manchester Pine Ridge District event. Learning is an experience and, with modifications, he can look forward to going farther in the competition next year. Don't forget Regatta Bingo this Thursday night Caesarea Hall 7:30 p.m. The association had a good two hours of hard work Sunday on hammering out the program for the Civic Holiday Regatta weekend. More help is needed for the yard sale which is the last Saturday of this month. It was decided you could start dropping off items from Saturday May 14 on, at 20 Putsey Drive. We hold the yard sale here because of the covered space we have in case of rain. Also, it prevents double handling which can cause breakage. See you at the sale on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29. The fireworks display was Museum It is a good thing that I haven't put away my winter clothes yet. I sure needed my winter coat over the weekend. Regardless of the weather, our community has many activities planned. The Community Nursing Home and Port Perry Villa will be holding their "T'wo Bazaars in One" on Saturday, May 7. Note their new time - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This Annual Spring Sale is one you won't want to miss. Don't forget to check out the great gift ideas in both build- ings. The Scugog Island Women's Institute will be at the Port Perry Flea Market on Saturday, May 7. They will be selling home baking and tickets on their quilt. Artfest '94, the Art and Craft Exhibition and Sale will be held on Saturday, May 7 and Sun- day, May 8 in Port Perry. This popular event is sponsored by the Port Perry Rotary Club. You won't have to go far this weekend to take in some great sales. Of course there will be yard sales in our area again, so you will have lots to keep you busy. also reviewed and will be final- ized at the Hall Board meeting as this is a joint venture. Trust you firemen are getting lots of practice in as the police are well prepared for that great ball game June 11. Bazaar! Bazaar! Don't forget this Saturday is the Caesarea Hall Board's Bazaar, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remember the Hall Board meeting is changed to 7:30 p.m. May 12 at the Hall. The Hall Board is happy to announce they are registered as sponsors for the Venture Group of our area by Scouts of Canada. The Pine Ridge Garden Club had a great turnout Saturday for their International Smor- gasbord. They wish to thank everyone who prepared dishes and those who attended. Espe- cially the Pathfinders, who did an excellent job on cleaning up. I'm not forgetting the members who worked so hard as well. However, we regret an error was made by accident, with someone picking up the wrong men's leather coat which has a yard sale May 23 Scugog Shores Musem and Village The Port Perry Cruisin' Clas- sics Car Club Rally will be held at the Museum on Sunday, May 15from 1to 3 p.m. The Museum's Annual Yard Sale will be held on Monday, May 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please think of us this week when you are spring cleaning. Scugog Island United Church Despite the rainy morning, a good crowd gathered together for worship on Sunday morn- ing. The choir sang an inspiring number called "I Have Decid- ed". The children enjoyed learn- ing a new song called "His Ban- ner Over Me Is Love". This song included a verse that went along with our theme today - "Jesus is the Vine and We are the Branches".
