The residents in the area af- fected petitioned for this work to be done last year, with 63 per cent in favor of the project, prompting regional officials to consider the project. As the project will be funded partially by the individual resi- dents, regional officials will no- tify them of the costs before the project begins. Public input will determine the final status of the project, Councillor Christie said. "I am hoping that the project goes ahead," said Councillor Christie. "Although the home- owners may not see the present benefit, the long-term benefits are important." These long-term benefits in- clude increased property values and eliminates possible contam- ination from the existing septic tanks. The tentative starting time for the project is August. Hook-up to the individual homes will take place approxi- mately nine months after the completion of the project. A third project to be complet- ed this year is a commuter park- ing lot on Regional Road 2 at Shirley Road. The commuter parking lot, to be constructed on the southeast corner, will accommodate a number of cars left at the loca- tion by the owners participating in car pools to the southern por- tions of the region. It will provide ample parking as well as capacity for buses to manoeuvre. The $80,000 project will be split equally by the Ontario gov- ernment and the Region of Dur- ham, With the amount of work be- ing conducted in the township this year, it is good indication that "there are things being done around the community," Councillor Christie said. William Sandiford Counterf eit money passed in Region From page 1 gest several ways to check the authenticity of currency. Fake currency is not as good a quality of paper, and red and blue secur- ity fibres normally present in bonafide currency, has been re- produced on the face of the bank notes with ink. If the fibres can be lifted from the paper whole, the money is probably real. If the fibres can be removed from the paper by scratching the surface they are probably fake. A number of styles of fake money are also waxy and smooth to the touch, while a real bill has raised print. Thé most common counterfeit currency appearing has been $20 American bills as well as $10 and $20 Canadian bills. Most of the $20 bills as well as all the $100 bills picked up have been produced by the bubble-jet printer process. Careful inspec- tion shows a background of tiny multi-colored dots EH natead of the proper . printed background. Careful attention should also be paid to the curves to the left of the Queen's head, which should be perfect. In addition Canadi- an Fills have green silk dots which can be removed from the paper. Comparing any suspicious note to another in your posses- sion is an ideal way to check its authenticity, police say. 197 Queen Street, Port Perry 985- 9982 Hours: Mon.
