The pitchers in this league opening game were as hot as the weather was cold and the teams entered the last inning in a scoreless deadlock. In fact the Gamblers Mark Goreski, had a no-hitter going into the last frame and had re- tired the lead off batter in the last inning when Oshawa's Rich Bricknell caught up to a Gore- ski high fast ball and deposited it over the centre-field fence for a 1-0 Oshawa lead. Goreski, had all his pitches working during the contest and after the Bricknell home run he set down the last two batters on strikeouts, giving him a total of 12 during the game. So Greenbank came to bat down by a run and only three outs away from defeat. John Logeman had pitched four shut- out innings for Oshawa and Rod Cormier had come on in reliefin the fifth inning to preserve the shutout. fourths; two fifths; and two sixths for a total of 14 awards. Optional Level One: Noah Krol - Floor - fourth; Vault - first But Jim Chilvers led off the bottom of the seventh for the Gamblers and with a three ball, two strike count he got all of a Cormier pitch and his long home run tied the game at 1-1. The next batter was third base- man Brian Till and he clouted the very next pitch over the left- field fence and Greenbank had scored a dramatic "come from behind" win. It was strange that the pitch- ers had dominated the game un- til the last inning and that a to- tal of three home runs would happen in the last at bat for both teams. However a ball game is never over "till its over" and the Gam- Gymnasts fare well | J S58 - gold medal. Rich Bricknell had the only Oshawa hit while Jim Chilvers led the Gambler attack with a "three for three" performance with Brian Till, Mark Goreski and Steve Durham each hitting safely.
