The head table guests Jim Kennedy Provincial Field Exec- utive; Howard Hall, Mayor; Jim Callan representing the group's sponsor, Church of the Ascen- sion; Ross Taylor, District Com- missioner of Pine Ridge Dis- trict; David Wood, President of Pine Ridge Council; Jack Lee, Pine Ridge's first District Com- missioner; Alf Huggins, former 1st Port Perry leader; Ruth Col- lins, President of Lakeridge Re- gion and Doug Butt, represent- ing the Legion Branch 419 were introduced by the Group Chair- person Ellen Greenough. Greetings were extended by Ruth Collins from the Region, by David Wood from Pine Ridge council and by Jim Callan from the sponsor Church of the As- cension. Mayor Howard Hall complimented the group on their growth. This year it was felt by the group that the Bea- vers had done such a good job of helping take care of the world that they were all presented with a trophy by their leader. The Cub leaders presented trophies that the Cubs had won earlier from the Kub Kar Races. These trophies included 1st Speed - Billy Britt and Burke Thomson; Design Scott Symes and Chris Smith; Boy Only De- sign Joseph Farquharson and Thomas Greenough; Best Paint Lee Aldred and Darryl Copit- horn. The Russell Dionne Me- morial Trophy for the Cubs who "Did their Best" Trophy was awarded to Matthew Coxon and James Desmond. At the Pine Ridge District Finals, Burke Thomson took first in speed, Chris Smith first design, Jo- seph Farquharson third Boy Only and Don Beelby most orig- inal. Cub of the Year plaque was presented by Wil Corneal to Jo- seph Farquharson from "B" Pack and Thomas Greenough "A" Pack. Wil Corneal congratu- lated all the cubs for doing their best and that all of them de- served to win. Jon Dufoe and Thomas Greenough were pre- sented with Keeo crests for helping the Beaver leaders dur- ing the year. Scout leader Ephraim Dufoe gave a brief description of what the Scout leaders had looked for when choosing the Scout of the Year and then presented Alec King with the plaque. He also told of the many camps'that the Scouts had gone on and had coming up. Service pins were presented to Ted Shepherd, Val Hutsell, Liz Elliot, Dave Rankin, Tyler Pope, Rick Renison, Rito Rick- ard, Kevin Barltrop and Jay Geekie for one year service; Scott Bowers, Leslie Rideout, Marlene McKay for two year service, Tim Wansborough, Sharon Beit for three years ser- vice; Do arquharson, Caro- lyn Beellly, Ephraim Dufoe four years service, by Ellen Gree- nough. She also congratulated Gary Manns, Rick Rennison and Ted Shepherd for taking their Part One Training and Kim King who completed his Part Two training. District Commissioner Ross Taylor expressed his hope that the Beavers and their leaders had enjoyed the Annual Beaver- ee held earlier in the day and presented five-year pins to Chuck Mercier, Wil Corneal, Michael Coxon and Larry Em- merson. It was also mentioned that Kim King, Lloyd and Ellen Greenough had seven years ser- vice, Doug Morden nine years service and that Gord Mercer had 14 years. Rodney Greenough, Jeff Morden, Bob Brown, David Nowak and Paul Manns were recognized with a small trophy recognizing their accomplish- ment of having been in the Scouting Program for 10 years and who are all now Venturers. Absent, David Nowak, 10 yrs. for exemplifying service beyond what is expected of them to scouting was given to Doug Butt, Kim King, Ephraim Dufoe and Joanne and Ken Koury. This year the group made up a new plaque to recognize all the leaders and group commit- tee executive. With the dona- tion of Jack Lee's original Scout hat and the skill of Ray Rankin, the new plaque will be known as "Jack's Hat". Jack Lee started his scouting career in 1957 with 19th Oshawa as an assistant Cub leader. At this time, Jack pur- chased his hat through the T. Eaton Co. In 1968, Jack moved to Orangeville where he became the Scout Master and also was A.D.C. In 1972, Jack moved to Blackstock and joined 1st Cart- wright Cubs. Jack became the first District Commissioner of Pine Ridge District. Jack has since retired from scouting, however, Jack wanted his hat to remain in scouting. After talk- ing to Gord Mercer, Jack decid- ed to donate his hat to 1st Port Perry who were honored to ac- ceptit. Gord Mercer will get the plaque first because he has the most service in scouting in the Jack Lee purchased his first Scout hat in 1957 and group. Jim Kennedy spoke on being repared and having fun by the loaders, arents and youth. Al- though the response was low "if the youth were having fun", it was probably because the Bea- vers were tired after their Bea- veree. Michael Coxon said grace and a delicious roast beef dinner supplied by the Meating Place, served by the mothers was en- joyed by all. Ellen Greenough thanked all the leaders and the group committee for all their help and assistance through the year. Lloyd Greenough gave token gifts to Julie Williams, Wendi Sinclair and his wife on behalf of the Cubs for all their help during the year, helping pay for the prog;ram. Trees for Canada prize was won by Cub Michael Mercier who raised $106 of pledges. All the boys were presented with individual and group pho- tographs. Venturer Advisor Larry Em- merson showed slides of Europe where 10 of last year's Scouts had camped and travelled.
