ot SHETTY 16 - PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, May 25,1994 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" R Dror ST URAL RoorTs Bands from Prince Albert Public School and Pringle Creek Public School joined forces last week to perform at Prince Albert P.S. on Thursday. Shown is the Pringle Creek stage band. What beautiful weather we all enjoyed over the long week- end. I am sure thousands of jobs were done around homes and cottages when there was no ex- cuse with poor weather. Blackstock should be well fed on Saturday when two special events will take place - the St. John's annual Spring Salad Buffet will take place at the St. John's Anglican Parish Hall. The high school year book com- mittee is holding an "all you can eat" spaghetti dinner also on Saturday evening. Tickets are available from the school. Sure- ly no excuse to cook your own dinner on Saturday evening. St. John's Anglican Church had at its Sunday morning ser- vice the baptism of Natasha Lynn Edgerton, daughter of Lisa Edgerton. Her Godparents were Anne Edgerton, Janice Beechey and Ken Crawford. Janice Beechey was her church sponsor. Those also in atten- dance were Bessie Crawford, Garry, Nicole, Natalie and Ra- chel Beechey, Merrill and Jean Van Camp, Gilbert and Shirley Magill, Murray and Reta Bir- kett, Jack and Verna Chapman, Jane Konides, Wade Patterson and Brian Magill. After the ser- vice Natasha's grandparents, Grant and Lorna Edgerton hosted a buffet for all attending. On Tuesday evening, May 31 a community shower will be held at the Blackstock United Church C.E. Room in honor of bride-to-be Esther Kelly. This event where all are welcome, will begin at 7:30 p.m. A come and go open house is planned for Jason Kyte and his bride-to-be Tammy Kellar on Sunday, June 5 from 2-4 p.m. at the United Church. Donations may be left with Gord Paisley or Eileen McLaughlin. These two young couples are each being married on Satur- day, July 23. In last week's paper I wel- comed James Massie to the wrong house in Blackstock. He 'and his bride-to-be Laura, have bought the former Herb Swain home on Scugog St. With so many house sales recently in our village, itis hard to keep up- to-date on who is where. Jamie and Laura will be married this Saturday, May 28 at Parkwood, Oshawa. Sorry for my mistake. The Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary needs more knitters. Wool is supplied. Ei- leen McLaughlin is the co- ordinator of his project. Give her a call at 986-4420 if you can help this worthwhile on-going work. The 4-H project this summer will be "A Walk On The Wild Side" which will begin on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at the Blackstock United Church. Leaders will be Gail Johns and Julie Byers. You will learn skills, games and crafts that will help you to enjoy hiking and camping. Sure sounds like fun to me - too bad that I am be- yond the 4-H age! If you have not reserved your tickets for the Ray Ashton Re- tirement dinner and party on Friday, June 10 do phone the Cartwright High Sc¢hool as soon as possible at 986-4241. There were 12 tables at the Tuesday evening weekly euchre party with the following win- ners: Eileen Warder, Dorothy Archer, Paul Mucha, Bernice Retirement party June 10 Renton, Theresa Berkers, Grant Bright and Ruby Co- chrane. Lucky draws were won by Roy Werry, Alma Manns, Grace Bassett, Norman Rohrer, Carl Ferguson and Kathleen Watts. Vernon and Vera Asselstine attended the wedding of their granddaughter Gayle Assel- stine daughter of Les and Leah Asselstine on Saturday, May 21 to Jeff Kritz in Calvary United Church. Gayle has recently graduated as an accountant from the University of Waterloo and has taken a position in an accounting firm in Hamilton. Jeff is a chemical engineer in Guelph. Others attending this - happy event were Alan and family of Ottawa, Floyd and family, Colin and family all of Blackstock and Gerald of Oshawa. Gayle's cousin Tanyia of Ottawa was a bridesmaid. Vernon and Vera Asselstine spent Sunday afternoon and Monday with Bruce and Helen Alderson of Carlisle arriving home in time to attend Sarah Asselstine's 50th birthday. Vern's many friends are pleased that he has made such a fine recovery from injuries sus- tained in the accident he suf- fered last winter. Cartwright High School and Cartwright Public School bands and choirs are hosting a music night on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. at C.C.P.S. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Women's Institute held their May meeting on Wednes- day, May 18 at the home of Eu- nice Rahm. The Roll Call was "Show a school picture and tell where you went to school". Most of us forgot our picture (I'm not sure whether it was intentional or not.) The Motto given by Eu- nice was on the changes in the school system which was very interesting and also reminis- cent. The Institute was asked to hold a birthday party at Port Perry Nursing Home this month. Doris Hill was in charge of this pleasant duty. A social hour followed the meeting. Oops! There was an error last week. In the news item of the Li- ons Club proposed project re building the picnic shelter, the actual cost should have read $25,000. So don't forget to fill in "your survey sheet, it will give them an idea how the communi- ty feels about such an ambitious project.
