Soe you this weekond! last week, which he opened more than 20 years ago. "We're not here to celebrate your retirement, we're here to celebrate your enormous contri- bution to Mother Jackson's, said business partner Tom Jer- myn. The business started as a small restaurant where Mr. Jackson was known for his pies. It soon expanded from the busi- ness section of Port Perry to an industrial area where the busi- ness expanded to include Fla- mingo tarts and eventually meat pies. A new facility, where it is currently located, was con- structed in 1973. "It's been fun from that point on," Mr. Jermyn said. "Mother Jackson's would not exist with- out Ken Jackson. With his dedi- cation and tenacity, we are all the beneficiaries of him." "It's a high, high honor you've all bestowed upon me," Mr. Jackson told the employees and guests assembled to greet him. "I never really look back on what I've accomplished because I never think that way, but it has been an accomplishment." He in turn praised the em- ployees for carrying out his business plan. The founder was presented with various gifts including a Les Parkes painting of a "Show Boat" character in which Mr. Jackson is famous for portray- ing in various productions. . Marine patrol lays five charges The Durham Regional Po- lice's Marine Patrol Unit stopped more than 200 boaters on Lake Scugog last week for safety checks. The police gave out several warnings and seized liquor from several boaters, resulting in five liquor charges. The Marine Unit is stressing to SeaDoo riders they should wear their lifejackets, instead of sitting on them, because they may soon change their warn- ings to tickets. 3 AND -- Enter your name in our FREE DRAW for the tree now on display!
