Flower Festival well attended The Flower Festival held at Burns Church last Saturday was a resounding success. The sanctuary never looked as beau- tiful with all the many flora} ar- rangements on display, which were designed by many differ- ent people. The flowers were all sold in a silent auction, and many keen bidders enjoyed the fun of raising their bids throughout the day. We were pleased to see many visitors come to view the beautiful flow- "ers and making bids on the ar- rangements. Refreshments and tea/coffee were served in the lower hall. The most beautiful display was the three standards of flow- ers chiefly white lilies and mums depicting "The Truine God" designed by Ken Brown. I am happy to say we are now en- * joying the beauty of these flow- ers in our home. This is the first time we have held an event such as this in our church, and I'm sure for all flower lovers: this was a delightful experience. I know it was for me. Special thanks goes to the many people who made this all possible, especially to Lexie Pet- tus who came up with this great suggestion to hold a Flower Fes- tival at Burns. Also to Ken Brown for his long hours in preparation for this day, as well as obtaining the abundance of flowers used in designing. On Wednesday evening, the [Ladies Bible Class met at the home of Bernice Gardner with 10 ladies present. Aldine Wick chaired the meeting, which opened with the singing of "Trust and Obey." Sheila Par- rott read the scripture reading from Matthew 7: 7-12. Aldine's meditation was titled "How God Answers Prayers." Prayer led by Sheila. The hymn "More About Jesus" was sung. Grace Hopkins was in charge of the program. She shared with us a story on "A Remedy for Thirst by a Doctor," also "A Reward of Tribulation" from 2 Thes. 1: 1-5. Grace closed the meeting with prayer. Refreshments were served by our hostess. The next meeting will be held in Septem- ber. The Ontario Horticultural Association held its annual con- vention last weekend at Brock University in St. Catharines.
