Legionaire Squirts trounce Markham On June 9 our rep fastball squad hosted Markham and our bats were loaded as we took a 14-4 win. Mark Richardson had a two hitter, 12 strikeouts and 10 walks. Chris Skerratt earned three walks while Matt Skerratt had three hits. Chris Monsma and Aaron Lycett had two hits, Sean Jeffrey had one, Mark and Braden Tarbotton had triples. Earlier in the week, we par- tially avenged an earlier loss to Stouffville as we played to a 5-5 tie. Stouffville used two walks and a hit in their last at bat to get the tying run. Tim started for the "golden boys" and allowed just one run on three walks, two strikeouts. Mark notched five Ks in relief and clubbed a two-run triple. Port Perry singles were by Matt Skerratt, Sean, Aaron, "win- dows" Wiseman and Jeff Kane. The team travelled to St. Catharines on June 11 for their second tournament of the sea- son. The team was uncharacter- istically flat in their opening game against a charged up Oshawa team. The result was a 2-01oss for Port as Oshawa capi- talized on a throwing error and a two out walk. Tim pitched well in allowing just two walks and four hits. He registered sev- en strikeouts. Chris Monsma made a nice catch off a line drive to second base and Jeff charged a pop-up to right field success- fully. Chris Monsma and Sean Jeffrey were the only two Port hitters to solve the speedy Oshawa hurler and an inconsis- tent umpire strike zone. In our second game of the tournament our heroes bounced back and showed their more 985-7916 Used ang oe Ni N (OF: 0-100 [110] 4} BOB HOARE ~ BOB JAMIESON ® Trade-Ins Welcome ¢ Financing Available ® Leasing Available RPC | fay toget ito AUTO S ALES Lacy lo deal wilh... typical style of play on their way toan 11-2 win over Willowdale. Braden made a nice catch in left-centre field and Aaron made a spectacular catch out in left field from his shortstop po- sition. Mark had two doubles, Sean had three hits while singles were by Monsma, Braden, Aa- ron, Matt Breen, and speedy Jeff Kane. Mark had good con- trol over the strike zone in al- lowing just one walk to go with just four hits and six Ks. Our third game was against Stratford and a thunderstorm shortened our game and avert- ed our comeback. We had fought back from a 5-0 deficit af- ter two innings with three runs in the fifth inning. Three Strat- ford batters who walked also scored and a couple of defensive mental errors contributed to our failure to get a good start in this game. Mark (two doubles), Sean (one double) were the only Legion batters to hit off the Stratford hurler who success- fully intimidated our batters. Exposure to such tactics will teach our players how to cope with these challenges in the fu- ture. Jeff and Chris earned walks during our rally and both scored to prove how important "walks" can be. Rich Bryant got a start in right field in this game and the rookie continues to progress in his fastball development and has worked hard in batting practice also. Next home game for the Le- gion Squirts will be against the powerhouse Bramalea team on June 16 at the Water St. south diamond. Your cheers may help us give them a surprise. 1625 Scugog St., Port Perry - across from the beer store. Complete Car Care Available!
