'A Famlly Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 14,1994 - 27 SrorTs Cartwright Minor ball results T-ball Blackstock Lioness 20 Super Spud 16 A balanced attack led the Li- oness to a close four-run victory over Super Spud. Ten of the 11 players scored at least one run each with the offensive run pa- rade being led by Cory Clarke, William Dallas and Sarah Op- pers with three runs each. Brian Jensen played an excel- lent defensive game making nu- merous outs at first base and home plate. Zachary Greco and Bryan McNamara led Super Spud with a single and three runs each. Dustin Parker was the field- ing star playing a strong game at first and third base. Blackstock Figure Skating Club 18 Analda Garden Centre 10 Excellent hitting by Caitlyn Hellingman and Carly Mateo led the Figure Skating Club to victory. Both girls had three hits each, including a home run. Other Skating Club game stars were Myles Romain and Cory Rundle. Providing the hitting power for Garden Centre were Mi- chael Hazelden, Natalie Beechey and Sean Taylor with three hits each. Tykes J.C.Flooring 13 Cartwright Youth \, Councill2 In a close seesaw battle, the J.C. Flooring team edged the CYCteam 13-12. Game stars for J.C. were Mark Carnaghan with a home run and a triple, and Jamie Newman with two singles. Nicole Jones got the Youth Council's big hit with a first- inning home run. Also helping the CYC offensively were Joey Hill and Donald Ellis. Mike Baker Auto 4 Lishman's 0 In a rare shutout game, Bak- er Auto were led by the 10 strikeouts recorded by Mitch Truax and Taylor Churchill. Also leading Auto to victory were Dana Manns, Kory Bauer with a double and Patrick Wot- ten with a triple. Turner's Green Giants 13 Swain's Seed Slugers 2 The Giants maintained their dominance by beating Swain's 13-2. Ashley Lucus led the Giants by striking out six bat- ters. Justin Sobczak chipped in with a double. Craig Jouerey knocked in both Swain's runs with a two- run home run. Other defensive stars for Swain's were Shawn McNamara and Bonnie John- son. Power Workers Union 17 Wotten Carpentry 16 The Union team built up an early 5-0 lead and managed the one-run win. Solid pitching by Scott Eveans and excellent catching by Jeff Tarbotton led the Port Perry team to victory. Wotten's were led by Mat- thew Campbell and Garratt: Brown who each scored three runs. Mites Carpet Warehduse 18 Blackstock Lions 17 Adam Stapley's second home run proved to be the difference as the Carpet crew won their second game of the year. Darryl Goulding hit a two-run scoring double while Andrew [Lamb made the defensive play with a catch to end an inning. Melissa Peleiks' two RBIs, Blake Tanner's three stolen bases and Jeff Kraan's triple led the Lion Cubs. Martyn Consulting 10 MKM Eggbeaters 9 Martyn Consulting started the game fast, building up an 8- 0 lead after two innings, behind the strong pitching of Chris Go- ble. MKM chopped away at the lead by scoring four runs in the third with some timely hitting and triples by Tyson Prescott and Mark Vernest. The Consulting crew got their final two runs with the help of doubles by Bradley .Sutcliffe and Chelsea Mateo. In their open inning, MKM made a game of it scoring five times but managed no more. The rematch awaits much an- ticipation. Asselstine'sYamaha 16 Ash/Ember Flames 9 A well-balanced hitting at- tack led Asselstine's to victory over the Flames. Jessica McLaughlin for Asselstine's was the game star, hitting a double as well as performing well on the mound. Craig Assel- stine also pitched well for the winning team. . Stephen led Ash/Embers with two hits. Squirts Antrim House 16 Cummings Backhoe 8 Daryl Dean led Antrim House to their first win with a home run, triple, as well as a great pitching performance. Chad Hobbs also helped the cause with a run-scoring triple. Jennifer Upton was the de- fensive star finishing off a dou- ble play to end the game. Ryan Sheehey and Graham Ingram led the fielding plays for Cummings, along with fine pitching performances by Tyler Lucas and Grant Arsenault. An honorable mention to Mite call-up Chris Goble who played for Cummings. Nestleton Country Store 25 Pineridge Glass Service 7 In a complete team effort, the Nestleton Country Store easily beat the opposition 25-7. Mi- chelle Blundon led Nestleton with four hits. Aaron Warren's home run and two singles each by Kristy Kingma, Holly West- all and Miranda Burgess pro- vided the offensive support. Pineridge's game stars were John Williams with a double Fgh and a triple by Jesse Vitek. Senior Softball H&M Wright Sox 8 Blackstock Hardware 3 The Wright Sox stretched their record to 3-0 in a low- scoring game. Sox pitchers held the Hardware team to five sin- gles and just three runs. H & M combined 10 singles and a double to help out their eight run total. The final score was not indic- ative of the play as a good close defensive game was played by both teams. Don Frew & Sons - W Port Perry IGA -L No report available. Baseball Causeway Cougars 13 Top Gun Janitorial 8 The Cougars recorded an- other win behind the bat of John Chrapek. The youngster recorded three hits including a triple and a home run. Also helping with hits were Young, Prescott, Bauer and Kyle. Ryan Prescott, Rob Wolters and Brian Wonnacott played well defensively, each catching a fly ball to record an out. London Life Lazers 9 Towne Fireplace 7 Some great defensive play carried the Lazers to victory. A super catch by Jesse Mullins saved at least one run. As well, he ran down another long hit ball to save another run. Mike Sonne highlighted the pitchers closing down the opposition with six strikeouts over the final two innings. Leading the offense were Joey Lane, Brad Sutcliffe and Jason Michel who collected three hits. Reminders All coaches are reminded to make sure that players' last names are entered. It's very dif- ficult to tell who is who with only first names. Also please try to limit game stars to four per team, plus sub- mitting a short game summary. Taylor Ford Mites win On June 2, the Taylor Ford boys travelled to Oak Ridges and came home with their first win. Port started quickly, scor- ing three in the first on a single by B. J. Schaump and walks to Justin Shinn and Tyler Lee be- fore Jonathon Breen hit a two- out single, scoring two runs. Oak Ridges got two back in the bottom of the first and one in the second to tie the game. Port opened up breathing room in the third scoring four, then an- other seven in the fourth. Stuart Cochrane pitched well for two more innings before run- ning into trouble in the fifth. Tyler Lee came in to relieve but also had control trouble. B. J. Schaump came in to put out the fire and keep the Taylor boys in the lead 16-13. Port scored two in the sixth thanks to Tyler Lee's home run and Justin Vandergaast's triple which scored Jonathon Breen for a final score of Port Perry 18 - Oak Ridges 13. Playing well were B. J. Schaump with a sin- gle and a save, Stuart Cochrane a double and pitching, Justin Shinn two walks, Tyler Lee scoring four runs with a home run and a triple, Kellen Jackson had a single, Jonathon Breen had a double and two triples, Jeff Corbett scored two runs with good base running, Darryl Copithorn had a single and catching, Luke Pilkey with a single and Terry Daly with good contact hitting. June 1, the Taylor boys ran into red hot pitching as Wood- bridge's pitcher threw a no- hitterin a lopsided win. June 8, Vaughan came to town to hand the Taylor Ford boys another loss. Port Perry's bats are starting to come alive but the pitching still needs a lit- tle practice. June 9, Port travelled to Au- rora and again had trouble find- ing the plate, resulting in an- otherloss. Mites play hard in Ernestown The Taylor Ford boys showed great improvement as the day went on but unfortunately took three losses. The first game saw Kingston Township down Port 16-0. This game was not as bad as the score indicated as Port hit the ball hard, but right at the other team. A couple of er- rors in the field seemed magni- fied as Kingston mercied Portin three innings. The second game had Port playing Peterborough. Peterbo- rough"s first pitcher was strong and allowed his team to get a 10-1 lead after two innings. Tyl- er Lee pitched well and is get- ting better every time out. Port made a game out of it, scoring six in the third. Unfortunately, Peterborough scored six more to win the game 16-7. Game three was a battle for three innings with the Taylor boys playing their best game of the year. Port led 2-1 after the first and trailed 3-2 after three. Central Frontenac scored three runs in the fourth after Port wr J PETER HVIDSTEN 7 PORT PERRY STAR Members of the Durham Regional Police Department and Scugog Fire Hall #2 slugged it out In a charity baseball game last Saturday night at the Nestleton Hall ballpark.
