For that reason agricultural so- cieties have diversified their ef- forts over the years. Blackstock Agriculture Society has certain- ly done so as it plans for its vari- ous activities. On July 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. the annual Blackstock Tractor and Truck Pull will be held at the fairgrounds. This event fea- tures a large variety of classes featuring stock and modified trucks and tractors. As well classes will be held for antique (vintage) tractors and the color- ful highway tractors. On July 30 in the evening the Kokomo Beach Band will have a return engagement after a very successful event last summer. This fun-filled outdoor beach party is a family event when all ages enjoy dancing and listen- ing to this great group. Pro anglers coming to Scugog By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Professional anglers will once again descend on Port Perry next weekend as the GM/ Mariner Pro Bass tournament trail winds into Lake Scugog. Hundreds of anglers will take part in the first tournament of the season in Scugog, June 25 and 26, which coincides with the opening of bass season. Competitors will compete for more than $20,000 in cash and prizes each day. First prize each day, based on a full field, will be $5,000. All GM Pro Bass Tourna- ments are live release events, with the Shimano boat return- ing all bass back into Lake Scu- gog at the weekend's conclu- sion. As always the popular weigh- in show will be held in Palmer Park, beginning at approxi- mately 2:30 p.m. on both Satur- day, June 25 and Sunday, June 26. All residents are invited to watch the show. Pro Bass anglers will compete in eight tournaments over the RY: 1%, The popular Demolition Der- by will take place Friday eve- ning, Aug. 26 when a large crowd is expected to attend to see all the noise and action. The 129th Blackstock Fair will be held Saturday, Aug. 27. One of the special attractions this year will be champion fid- dlers. Graham, Eleanor and Gary Townsend who will enter- tain throughout the afternoon. The fair will be opened by our Bill Lishman. "Sparky" the clown will delight children of all ages. Another new event will be the Pet Show. Much more infor- mation will be coming on the fair as the date comes closer. The Fiddle Contest on Nov. 5 will conclude this year's activi- ties of the Blackstock Agricultu- ral Society. Man attempts to snatch elderly woman's purse An elderly woman, walking in the alley beside the post office, was approached from behind by aman, who attempted to snatch her purse offher shoulder. According to Durham Region- al Police, the white male, possi- bly with a kerchief on his head, grabbed the strap of the purse, but it came loose from the purse and the man ran towards Dixie Lee Chicken with only the strap in his hand. The woman, who is in her 80s had the purse resting in her palm. The incident happened just before 7p.m. on Wednesday, June 8. The Port Perry Farmer's Market opened its fifth season at the fairgrounds In Port Perry last Saturday morning. Above Whitney Cohoon and her daughter Tally greet some of the first day customers to their booth in the display building.
