"A new ward and a new face with fresh convictions for the council chambers," is how he de- scribes his intentions. Mr. Donaldson, who has lived in the area for more than four years, has many plans for the area. "The area comprising Ward 5 1s most intriguing because I see many enthusiastic possibilities to make our community become an even more vibrant munici- pality," he said. Among his concerns are a sec- ond ice pad at Scugog Arena, a new banquet facility and the long-term lease arrangement at the Port Perry Fairgrounds. "The advent of a banquet hall at Scugog Arena impresses me immensely. The lack of a second ice pad does not," he said. Mr. Donaldson believes a sec- ondice pad could become a reali- ty with the help of both govern- ment grants as well as the co- operation of the corporate sec- tor and service clubs. The need for a second ice pad 18 something very much on the minds of many in the communi- ty. Port Perry men injured in Metro apartment explosion One Port Perry man was tak- en to hospital and another was unharmed after being caught in an apartment building explo- sion last week. Brad Wideman, 29, and Greg Duff, 23, both of Port Perry were refinishing hardwood floors in a Toronto apartment building June 15, when a pilot light in a gas oven ignited the fumes from the floor refinishing substance they were using. The explosion and fire in the building on Wellesley and Sher- bourne Streets caused $25,000 additional $25,000 in personal belongings in damage. An was also lost. But while tradition should be upheld in the area, the 40-year- old political hopeful is not against change. But it must be change for the good of the com- munity. "Make no mistake about it, Scugog Township is going to change," he said. "And while I do support increased quantity, | also uphold quality at the same time." "Afterall, quality is one at- tribute we as a community have earned and under no circum- stance should this characteris- ticbe sacrificed." As a sports-minded person, Mr. Donaldson is cognizant of the importance of teamwork and believes it to be a vital part of ahealthy community. "Certainly this teamwork should overlap to all of us, the residents, while maintaining a healthy relationship with the people we vote into office," he said. "By creating harmony, we become productive."
