aaa wo 4 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 21,1994 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" PORT PERRY STAR € CoMMUNITY Festival Days theme is "Reach for the Beach" By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Residents and visitors to Scu- gog Township can "Reach for the Beach" at next month's an- nual Festival Days, which will run this year from July 7-10. Final plans for the 22nd an- nual event are coming together, as most events are confirmed, according to organizer Bill Dow- son. Changes and additions may occur over the next couple of weeks prior to the event. Residents will see a great va- riety of events, including many new and different approaches to fun. Several events will relate to the new beach theme. Organizers are once again emphasizing "fun for the whole family" type of events. This year a larger focus will be on events for kids, which will include Ki- deo a television series called "Kids Can Rock 'N' Roll", which will be held in the festival tent on the Friday evening. There will also be two magical illus- tionist shows on Satur- day,featuring Princess Karma and Co. The adults can look forward to a rock 'n roll beach party as Pink Cadillac will play tunes in the Festival tent, taking resi- dents on a cruise back to the '50s. Other events planned for the day will include three-on-three basketball, a boat show and per- sonal watercraft demonstra- tions, mutt show, dart tourna- ment, merchants auction, lob ball tournament, beach guys and girls kiddie parade and a midway, as well as a number of other events. Entertainment can also be caught on stage with Benny the Clown, the Good Tyme Clog- gers, local talent, and many oth- er events. Festival tent events will in- clude a dance on Thursday, July 7, with Pete Kneale as the D.J. Friday night a Rock 'N Roll Beach Party featuring the Wolf (101.5 F.M.) Karaoke Band will be held and on Saturday, July 8 a 50/60s dance featuring Pink Cadillac, will be presented by CKDO, 1350 A.M. -- SCOTT ANDERSON /PORT PERRY STAR R.H. (Back) Clayton Gilmore, Greg Hunter and Michael Motocross riders compete for $6,000 purse Saturday By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Professional motocross riders will be performing double jumps and Whoop de doos this Saturday afternoon behind Scu- gog Arena. The Provincial Champion- ship event, sanctioned by the Canadian Motorcycle Associa- tion, is one of 28 to be held across Ontario this year. The events attract 150-250 riders perevent. : Other competitions to be held locally this year will be in Ux- bridge and Oshawain July. On Saturday, June 25 riders will compete for a $6,000 purse Pine Ridge Garden Club June meeting by Angela Willis The Pine Ridge Garden Club met at the Nestleton Hall on June 7. Sam Brandsma from Lindsay showed interesting slides on dif- ferent varieties of flowers, which the members enjoyed very much. The winners of the monthly competition were: first Fran Binns, second Grace Bajema, and third Tina Wolters. Kath- leen Petrie was the winner of the door prize. Early in June some of our members planted flowers at the Community Memorial Hospital in Port Perry and at the Nestle- ton Hall. Our next meeting will be July 5 at the Nestleton Hall. This on a stadium-style course, with man-made obstacles towards a Table Top finish line. The course will be set up so all spec- tators have a view of the entire track. The racers will compete in Pro 125 and 250 cc Intermedi- ate, Novice, Peewee, Schoolboy, and Ladies as well as ATV Pro and Novice classes. Competitors at Motocross events range in age from Pee- wees (five to 10 years of age) to veterans (39 and over). The event will feature local riders, including Matt Grills of Port Perry and Jesse Wilson, of Ashburn, who was ranked num- ber 12in Canadalastseason. The motorcross riders will be at Scugog Arena on Saturday, June 25 beginning at noon until 4:30 p.m. Admission will be $5. Children under 12 will be admitted free.
