So far the program has received $500. One of our local ladies is be- ing married on July 16 and some of the neighbors who re- member Jackie Skelding grow- ing up down on the 4th Line, have decided to collect for a wedding gift. Our deepest sympathy to John and Suzanne Warner in the passing of John's father in - Niagara Falls this past week. John's mother is spending a few days here in the village. Doug and Judy MacSween at- tended a wedding reception for Mike and Jan Longo at the Oak- wood Arena on Saturday eve- ning. Trevor MacSween flew to P.E.L. on Saturday to spend five weeks visiting with his grand- mother. Grace and Gordon Kirk enter- tained her cousin Yvonne All- worth from Medicine Hat, Al- berta, for a few days last week. Eileen Slute enjoyed a five day bus trip to Virginia, travel- ling to the Shenandoah Valley, Richmond and Williamsburg. The heat and humidity was the only bad part ofthe trip. Congratulations to Kelly and Brian on the arrival of another daughter. Taylor Marie Bolt- Grace arrived on Thursday at Community Memorial Hospital weighingin at 6 1bs. 8 oz. Several baseball enthusiasts were in Greenbank on Sunday afternoon to watch their local "cutie" play. I happened to run into her? and if the others were dressed so well, I'm sure there were a lot of laughs during the afternoon. Doug, your're a doll. Congregation meeting 'Seagrave Congratulations, finally, to Christine and Wade Atkins of Robinglade Estates on the birth of their first child, a son "Daniel Wade". Happy birth- day to Linda Wray and to Mrs. Lillian Horner of the Port Perry Nursing Home who will be 95 this week. Shep- herd conducted the service on Sunday using as his topic: "Je- sus, Friend of Hopeless Cases". Next Sunday, the service will be led by the session at 9:30 a.m. Donna Wannamaker will be the speaker. There will be special music, a harmonica duet of fa- vorite hymns played by Joe Gantt of Lynchburg, Virginia -- and Bill Barr. A private service is being held on Tuesday morning. The weekly euchre was held on Thursday with nine tables. Lone hand series: George Harp- er. This Thursday will be the last euchre for a few weeks while some work is done at the community centre. Sheina Smith, will be on vacation " throughout July. During her ab- sence, Rev. George Malcom and Rev. Ian Morrison will conduct worship at Burns at 10 a.m. each Sunday. Tickets are now being sold for the pork roast sponsored by Burns Church on Saturday, July 9, to be held at Ashburn Park. Adults $10, children five to 10 years $5, under five free. Brooklin Horticultural Socie- ty held their rose show and gen- eral meeting last Wednesday evening. | guess we can blame the weather again for the lack of entries on the show table, which totalled only 47. There was no award for the best red rose or white rose. Norma Ingleton won the Best Decorative with her en- try of "triplets" - a stemmed gob- let design using three roses and own foliage. Florence Downey won first prize on many of her entries. The guest speaker Sher Lee- tooze gave an interesting and humorous talk on "Edible Wilds". Many of our so called weeds can be used for medicinal purposes. Burdock leaves can be used to treat poison ivy. The flowers and leaves of the gold- enrod make tea. A refreshing beverage can be made from the sumac, mixed with ginger ale. The next flower show will be YMCA camp in The Y.M.C.A. will be running | a summer camp program at Ep- som Church for the month of July. We will be having an Art, Sport and Kindercamp, depend- ing on the number of children who register (half and full days). Volunteer parents and students (13 to 15) welcome to Scugog Island School's out. Have a safe and happy summer! Come out on July 2 and 3 and stroll through our Museum Vil- lage during our "Music in the Village" celebration. Hey kids! Don't forget that the Scugog Shores Museum Vil- lage will be holding a Pioneer Day Camp for children ages six to 10. These camps will run July 19-22, July 26-29, Aug. 9-12 and Aug. 16-19. This is a great op- portunity for children to learn all about life in the "Olden Days". Register early by calling Cathy at 985-3589. Scugog Island United Church We enjoyed having Rev. Phil- ip Whitney as our guest speaker on Sunday morning. Rev. Whit- ney is a Chaplain at Oshawa General Hospital. The choir treated us to two anthems. Ron and Patricia Ashton en- Joyed a holiday in Alberta re- cently and attended the Belida- Stuttaford wedding in Edmon- ton. They also enjoyed a trip to Jasper. While we were swelter- ing with the heat, Patricia posed beside a snowman for a picture in the mountains. Several from Ashburn at- tended the pork barbecue at Mount Zion Church on Satur- day evening. A good meal, but it was sure chilly. On Saturday afternoon, Doug and Florence Ashton attended an open house for Mr. and Mrs. Sam Post of Whitby in honor of their 60th wedding anniver- sary. Mr. and Mrs. Post are Bet- ty Emm's parents. Don't forget the Canada Day Picnic to be held at Ashburn Park on Friday. All events be- gin at 11 a.m. Come and join in the activities and meet your friends and neighbors. Epsom The Bethesda Women's Insti- tute outing was attended by 17 and was a lovely day with a trip on the Severn River, a visit to the Leacock Museum in Orillia, a visit to a bird breeding farm, one of four in Canada. They were interested in tropical vul- tures, raptors (hawks, falcons, etc.). They were told how they are trained to hunt and return. All enjoyed this demonstration. The ladies had a boat trip on the Severn River then returned to Orillia for supper and the Op- era. I think they all had a full day when, after leaving Ux- bridge at 9 a.m. they returned at midnight. Well, I was one W.I. member who didn't go on the trip but I think I was just as tired as I at- tended my grandson, Clarke Moore and Heather Arp's wed- ding in Oshawa. I was told the party was well "charged" as there were three electricians in the bridal party. So this is "goodbye". It has - been nice knowing you and thanks to all who have helped along the way. a Gk Wi Jim and Elleen Warren celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends at the Uxbridge Seniors Centre on June 11. The couple were married in Scarborough on June 3, 1944 and were residents of Uxbridge for more than 40 years where they owned and operated a hardware business. They have lived in Scugog since renovating their cottage on Scugog Island two years ago.
