Congratula- tions, gang. The Regatta news this week 18 that the programs have been printed along with the draw tickets, and the draw tickets will be out to you this week. The committee has continued to spend money for the draw, priz- es for the Regatta and things appear to be shaping up quite well. Don't forget to get regis-. tered for the golf tournament. We had over 90 out last year and Bill is expecting a lot more this year. We had three cottages or homes broken into this past week in Caesarea, so I can only say lock your doors even if you're just next door. Now back to my friend, the contractor of our village, who was irate about the house on Mary Street being purchased. How does he feel this week now they have approved the Port Perry banquet hall. I am in full accord with him opposing this hall expenditure. There is an area on the east side of Lake Scugog which reaches from View Lake, which 18 the Manvers town line, all the way southwest to Shingle Land- ing in Caesarea. The series of communities is pretty well con- tinuous. View Lake, Scugog Point and Caesarea are very heavily populated by perma- nent residents. Williams Point 18 maybe 50 per cent. There are other areas of Ball Point and St. Christopher which I haven't mentioned. These communities are part of a district which I've given the native name of Wikiwa Nipi, meaning house or home by the water. Let's look back over the past 25 years of what has taken place in our township. Port Perry, for one area of expendi- tures: the Palmer Park im- provements; the twin baseball diamonds; the bandshell; Bird's Eye pool expenditures; number of street lights changed, includ- ing standards and wiring; those expensive refuse containers; the crystal palace handouts. I am aware of the service clubs contributing to some of these causes, but I know there has been taxpayers' money in- volved. Now let's look at Blackstock. The Rec. Centre was one major expenditure and then some. Now there is this $300,000 program where the township portion is $125,000. More mail goes through our Caesarea post office than Black- stock or Nestleton and the resi- dents of Caesarea east of Wil- liam Point Rd. get theirs through Nestleton. Mayor and councillors, a new deal has to be cut with proper planning and expenditures for our areas. I received a letter from Alan Pollock dated March 16, 1994, received on March 24, asking for a five-year appraisal and a look at 25 years. I acknowledged this letter on March 30 and asked for a meet- ing between him, two council- lors and myself because the problems are insurmountable in Caesarea. Current problems between Fire Hall, Hall Board and recreation conditions are deplorable. So far no meeting has been called. It appears the council has for- gotten us but in regards to re- spect, they trust our people with close to a million dollars of firefighting equipment. Don't forget Pine Ridge Gar- den Club meeting this Tuesday, July 5 at Nestleton Hall. If you are entering flowers, roses or vegetables, they are to be there- between 6 and 7:30 p.m. We leave at 7:30 p.m. for Mason- Hogue Gardens. Everyone wel- come. Hall Board meeting this Thursday July 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the hall. Wednesday, 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. is for shuffleboard at Blackstock Arena. Last week, 19 courts were used. Great go- ing, gang. Don't forget the annual Greenbank BBQ July 9 Shirley Lee The first holiday of the sum- mer season is past and I hope everyone enjoyed what turned Pork roast Saturday at Burns Church in Ashburn Rev. George Malcolm con- ducted morning worship at Burns Church on Sunday. Again, next Sunday Rev. Mal- colm will be with us at 10 a.m. Again this year, there was a big crowd showed up at Ash- burn Park on Canada Day to celebrate Canada's 127th birth- day. This event is always a great success, and each year seems to bring more people out. The weather was great! Jim and Elaine Ewing and son Eric from Orangeville visit- ed on Sunday with Elaine's par- ents Theo and Joan Knight. Bernice Gardner visited with relatives in Guelph recently. While there, Bernice enjoyed a tour of some of the new green- houses which have been built in the Guclph area in recent years. Visiting with Bernice and Jean were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cunnington, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Yeandle from Guelph, also Mr. and Mrs. Harold Willcocks, Ux- bridge and Mr. and Mrs. Ever- ett Westfall of Hamilton. Ken Brown and Moyra Dob- son have returned home follow- ing a trip to Vancouver visiting with Ken's daughter, and also travelling to Salem, Oregon vis- iting with his son. This Saturday night is the pork roast, sponsored by Burns Church, to be held in Ashburn Park, beginning at 5 p.m. I hope everybody who wanted a ticket already has one, as all ticket sales were cut off on Sunday. Now we just hope for a nice warm evening, with good food and entertainment. Glen Major Church has be- gun their summer services be- ginning on Sunday evening with Mr. Claude Simmonds in charge. Services will continue through to Labor Day Weekend at 7:30 p.m. each Sunday. If you like to worship at a quiet, little countryside church, surround- ed all around with beautiful stately trees, you will be made most welcome to join them each Sunday evening. out to be three beautiful sunny days. A small congregation attend- ed church services on Sunday, but they enjoyed the special mu- sic provided by Mary Wilson of Sonya. The UCW Fidelis Unit is * holding a yard sale next Satur- day July 9 at 8:30 a.m. on the church lawn. If it rains, it will be in the basement, so if you have donations, please have themin early. It's Barbecue Time: On July 29, from 4:30 6 7:30 p.m., the 18th Annual Greenbank Barbe- cue will be held in the church yard. So get your tickets early, prises are the same as last year. ickets are available from Neil Hunter 985-7456 or Rodd Fos- ter at 985-8298 or members of the committee. This year the barbecue committee members are going to try and do what they can to cut down on garbage so they are asking everyone to bring their plate, cutlery and mug or glass. It is an effort that I hope can work with our help. Ladies of the community are asked to supply two pies. Mrs. Pearl Couves has re- turned to her home after shoul- der surgery in Stouffville Mark- ham Hospital. We hope she has continuing good health and keeps doing those exercises. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Cookman have returned home after an en- Joyable trip to Prince Edward Island and the Boston area. Brian and Janice Lee and Murray and Shirley Lee spent the weekend in North Bay and on Saturday attended the wed- ding of Charlene Lee and Karl Smith. Thought for the week: You cannot box a sunset, It's hard to wrap up snow, There is no way to package, A lighted candle's glow. Enjoy each lovely ma- ment, As you walk along the way. There is a bit of beauty, In every passing day.
