Prince Albert residents want truck traffic limited By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star Prince Albert residents are calling on council to restrict truck trafficin the area. A petition with more than 30 signatures was submitted to council recently calling on it to designate Old Simcoe Road, be- tween King Street and the Fourth Concession, as a "No Heavy Truck" zone. "We, the undersigned, re- spectfully request that council limit large vehicular traffic on the section of Old Simcoe Road between Scugog Township Fourth Line and King Street in Prince Albert," the petition read. At the heart of the matter is an individual's transport truck, which the residents claim is of- ten parked on Old Simcoe Road, causing unsafe conditions. The residents expressed con- cern that the vehicle, parked on the shoulder or on the road, is causing unsafe conditions for school children and the school buses attempting to travel to Prince Albert Public School. "Itis extremely difficult to see past a full-sized truck tractor both for children on bicycles and MAPLES & ¢ish Catch & Release Pug, Emr Fishing & A A 0 Hole Golf _sas Course y | i <LC C + WaterCourse = == DROP BY FOR: BC CERT RST Vo 8 OR Topping & Coffee A Slice of Pie with (030) 1 (-1-X. The residents claim the re- strictions would not pose a prob- lem to truck traffic as large vehi- cles could use both Regional Road 2and Highway 12. Bill Dickinson, a school cross- ing guard in the area, appealed to council on Monday afternoon to consider the request. He expressed concern for the safety of school children in the area. The matter was referred to 'the Roads Department. Slow down To the Editor: This letter is written in re- gards to the person or persons who deliberately ran down three Canada Geese on Edger- ton Road near the bridge. As you have to slow down for this bridge I can't see how you couldn't have seen them. Would you do the same if three chil- dren were fishing at the bridge? People have slowed down to enjoy the view of these geese and their offspring from when they were born. Now you have destroyed them. I hope you are happy. I put you in the same category as the thugs who continually go down our road destroying our mailboxes. Nothing better to do with their time!
