These matters are also crucial to protecting the health and safety of individuals who work with pesticides. Successful completion of On- tario's Pesticides Safety Course is a legal requirement for use of many common pest control roducts. Contact your local inistry of Agriculture and Food (OMAPF) office for more in- formation about the training program. The Pesticides Actis adminis- tered by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE). Pol. lowing is a brief synopsis of the Act's requirements for safe transportation and storage of pesticides. Pesticide transportation 1. Never leave pesticides un- attended in a parked vehicle, unless the vehicle is locked or parked in an area to which pub- licaccessis denied. 2. Asignindicating "Chemical Storage Warning - Authorized Persons Only" must be dis- played on unattended parked vehicles containing pesticides. 3. Vehicles transporting more than 500 litres of pesticides must be placarded with a chem- ical warning sign at all times. Pesticide storage 1. Pesticides must be stored in an area that is used exclusively for this purpose. Separation from storage facilities for other commodities must be sufficient to prevent cross-coritamination. 2. Pesticides and pesticide ad- juvants (e.g., emulsifiers, dilu- ents, spreaders, and dyes) are the only items to be stored in this building, room, or part thereof. 3. If the pesticide storage is later to be used for other pur- poses, it must first be decontam- nated. "4. Insecticides, herbicides and fungicides should be stored sep- arately from each other. 5. The storage area must be screened and ventilated to the outside. 6. Chemical storage warning placards (available from OMAF and MOE) must be posted on the door(s) of the storage area. 7. The storage area must be lockable to control access. One staff member should be respon- sible for security. No one should be able to enter the storage area without authorization. 8. There must be no floor drains, unless they flow into a separate holding area which can be pumped out. Such spills must be disposed of in accor- dance with Regulation 309 of ou i: NE" 1W Xe lg . Protective gear must be stored in a manner that prevents its contamination (e.g., in an adjacent room or in polyethylene bags). 10. Post emergency telephone numbers in a prominent place. This list must include the doc- tor, poison control centres, fire, police, Spills Action Centre, and the MOE's Pesticides Control Officer. 11. Absorbent material (.e., sawdust, soil or rags) should be available in sufficient quantity to clean up any spills or leaks from containers. The MOE's - Pesticides Safety Handbook de- scribes procedures for equip- ment decontamination. 12. Pesticides storage areas must be cool and dry to prevent product breakdown or inactiva- tion. Check product labels for winter storage guidelines. 13.Pesticides should be stored in their original, labelled con- tainers. 14. The MOE must be notified of any fire or spill where there is an environmental impact. Any fire, spill, or theft of pesticides must be reported to the Spills Action Centre. 17. Only trained personnel wearing adequate protective equipment should be involved in any spill cleanup. Power to drive the feedrolls and attachments is supplied through a self-contained hydraulic system - the only design of its kind on the market. The most significant advantage of the hydraulic drive is the ability to infinitley cut the length between 3/16 and 5/8 inch (4.76 to 15.87 mm), without changing sprockets. Cutlength is changed by simply sliding an indicator to a desired position. anywhere within the range. This changes the hydraulic flow rate to the feedrolls to either speed them up for long cuts or slow them down for shorter cuts.
