Pe oN ABTA A, wn pad Gaming opponents plotting next move Opponents of a Scugog Island gaming facility are biding their time as they plot their next move. Spokesman Joel Aldred said legal opinions are being sought by the Save Scugog Island committee, and a "counter-attack" will be launched when they come in. "We haven't planned our next move yet," Mr. Aldred said last Thursday. "The position we'll take we'll decide in a week or two." Island residents have vowed to fight the bingo and Monte Car- lo hall, and have stepped up their efforts since it was announced the province had approved a bid by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island early last month. Islanders are particularly concerned about environmental impacts, and the disruptions that will be created in the quiet area by gamblers and bingo players travelling to and from the hall. Mr. Aldred said one challenge facing the committee is gaining access to records of the process for choosing bids from native bands. The New Democratic Party government at Queen's Park has not been forthcoming, said Mr. Aldred. "This government is renowned for its secrecy and going back onits wordin many ways," he said. "It isn't just the main street that was tied up, it was all the parking facilities," Mayor Hall said Thursday, the day after the crew from Bloodknot Produc- tions pulled out of town. The mayor added some merchants complained about the lack of convenience for their customers aswell.
