North Durham Alternative Housing (NDAH) has submitted a proposal to the rovincial ministries of ousing and Health for a 60- unit apartment building that will include up to 15 or 20 units for adults with ongoing treatment needs, and now await word on a decision. "We have a housing sponsor and a health care provider," said John Gillham, chair of NDAH last week. "The next step is for each of them to write a proposal to the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Health." Of the 61 responses received, 65 per cent ople over 60 years of age; 70 per cent indicated they'd like to be considered for tenancy in the new project, while 65 per cent indicated a wish to live in Uxbridge. The project would provide housing for seniors and those over 50, a percentage of whom have disabilities that require long-term care. It would integrate the disabled with the able-bodied and serve as an alternative to hospitals or nursing homes, which aren't appropriate settings for those involved in the study. Survey results led to a for a 60-unit apartment building with at least 15 units designated for the disabled.
