Police said a man was driving a 1987 Chevrolet truck southbound on Old Simcoe Rd. around 3 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 17) when he rear-ended a vehicle that had stopped for construction. * The driver of the truck fled the scene, but was spotted by two civilian police workers in a vehicle, according to a report. The truck proceeded down the road until it reached the 3rd Concession, where the driver stopped and got out, apparently to confront the two people who were tailing his vehicle. A man was arrested at the scene by two Durham Regional Police officers. Charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding legal limits is a 37-year-old Oshawa man. He was also charged with three counts of breach of recognizance. Police said the man was being held in custody pending a bail hearing last week. Police recorded at least four incidents, including two break-ins and two instances of car windows being smashed, within several hours. Sometime between 10p.m. and 1 a.m. a the window of a car parked at Crandalls' tavern on Water St.was smashed, and during the night Scooters Ice Cream shop, also on Water, was broken into, police said. Entry to the store was gained by way of a rear door; a little cash was stolen. The same night Tripp's dry cleaning shop on Scugog St. was entered when a door was pried open. It did not appear Friday as though anything - was stolen. The same night another car window was smashed, police said. Few details on that incident were available. Vehicles stolen Officers from 26 Division in Port Perry were involved in a number of stolen vehicle - investigations last week. Reports on file include the theft of a 1988 Pontiac Sunbird from Haugen's restaurant the evening of Aug. 17, a 1988 Monte Carlo sometime overnight Aug. 14 from Ianson Dr. in Greenbank, and the recovery of a vehicle stolen from Sunderland in a field off Cragg Rd. As well, police recovered a truck that was stolen from a Greenbank man's driveway while he slept around 3 a.m. last Monday. : The truck was found around 7 a.m. the same day, police said. Several thefts Police also reported the theft of a 12-foot landscaping trailer from Alma St. in Prince Albert sometime overnight Aug. 16, and the theft of an outboard motor from a boat docked near Fralick's Beach; the theft was reported Aug. 16 around 4 p.m. Other thefts included a car battery from a Simcoe St. home overnight Aug. 18, a lawnmower from a Sears display at Port Perry Plaza during the day Aug. 18, and an Alpine car stereo from a car parked on Queen St. in Port Perry Aug. 18." Boat is stolen Police are investigating the theft of a boat and motor from a local home during the weekend. The owner reported the theft of the boat and Mercury motor around 5:30 p.m. from a residence on Coulcliff Blvd. Sunday, police said. The occurrence has been classified as theft over $1,000. Also during the weekend, an attempted break and enter was reported at a summer home. Teens were allegedly lured to the apartment with the offer of cigarettes and liquor, police said. No charges had been laid in connection with the allegations as of Monday morning.
