One of the vehicles was a township car operated by the municipal bylaws officer, police said. It was discovered behind the township offices on Perry St. with all four tires slashed last Tuesday morning (Aug. 30). It's believed the damage occurred overnight Monday. And sometime during the night Aug. 31 a car parked behind a Queen St. building had its tires slashed, police said. Damage in that instance is estimated at around $600. $4,000 theft Power tools worth an esti- mated $4,000 were stolen from a residence on the Shirley Rd. (Regional Rd. 19) during the weekend, police reported. Police said a truck tool box and a workshop were entered sometime overnight Saturday (Sept. 3). Home break-in Police are also investigating a break and enter which occurred at a Regional Rd. 21 home. Police said a family returned from a week-long vacation to find their house ransacked and some items missing. Entry was gained through a window over a sink, police said. Stolen were a VCR and tapes, as well as a quantity of jewelry. Police are listing the incident as theft over $1,000. Safe emptied Police have suspects in con- nection with the theft of money and a camera from the Scugog Animal Control offices on Reach St. last week. Police said entry to the office was gained by a sliding glass window. Once inside the thieves opened a safe and removed cash and a Polaroid camera. The incident occurred some- time during the night Sept. 1, police said. Theft thwarted A vehicle in Port Perry sus- tained serious damage when an attempt was made to steal it last week, police said. The car, parked on Kellett St., was entered sometime during the night Aug. 31. Thieves smashed the 1976 Pontiac Le Mans' steering col- umn, but couldn't get the car started. Damage is estimated at around $300. A number of other car thefts were reported: A 1984 Pontiac was stolen from an Ash St. address in the early morning hours Sept. 4, and a car was stolen from a Greenbank resi- dence on Hwy 12 on the week- end. It was recovered in Thorah Twp. Monday (Sept. 5). As well, a boat and motor were stolen from a Portview Beach residence between Aug. 26 and 28, and a boat and motor were taken from Port Perry Marina during the peri- od Aug. 25 to 30.
