Durham Regional Police said a man was jogging with his dog on Regional Rd. 567 near Williams Point Rd. around 7 p.m. Sept. 23 when he was confronted by a pit bull he had encountered before ran at him. The man kicked the dog and the two tangled until the man's St. Bernard jumped in and took on the other dog, said police. The incident has been referred to Uxbridge Scugog animal control. House robbed A house in Seagrave was cleaned out by thieves who hit during the daytime, police reported this week. Sometime between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. last Tuesday (Sept. 13) someone backed a truck up to the house on River St. and made off with $4,000 worth of property, police said. A neighbor noticed a green older-model pick-up in the driveway, police said. Power tools, household appliances and other items were stolen from the home. Police reported the theft of two handguns from a McKee Rd. residence sometime around Sept. 165; few details were available. Sept. 11 in Blackstock a man reported his backyard shed had been broken into for the second time in three days. Police said a fish finder, cross bow and chainsaw were stolen. Value was $800. And sometime during the weekend, Sept. 11 to 13, a number of power tools valued at around $1,500 were stolen from a shed on Lakeview in Caesarea, police said. Vandals on spree A Craig Rd. couple were lucky to escape with minor in juries after someone tossed a brick at their car early Saturday. Police said the two were travelling west on Reach St. just past the industrial park in Jogger's St. Bernard and pit bull tangle in Caesarea Port Perry around 1:55 a.m. Sept. 17 when someone in an approaching vehicle tossed a concrete brick at them. The brick smashed the windshield and sent glass flying at the car's occupants, who sustained minor cuts, said police. The incident was one of several over the weekend, during which cars had windows smashed -- often with beer bottles -- and other damage done. The damage was most concentrated in Port Perry's Apple Valley area, where several vehicles were hit, police said. Glass smashed A drunk smashed a convenience store window then stuck around to make a purchase during the weekend. Police said a man who appeared to be drunk walked into a Becker's milk store on Hwy 7A in Port Perry just before midnight Sept. 11 and smashed out a pane of glass with his fist. Before leaving he walked to the counter and bought something, police said. Police added the man was "highly intoxicated". Car trashed A car stolen from Oshawa was found last week in the east end of Scugog Township after it had been trashed, police said. The vehicle was found on Battery Rd. at the east end of Russel with its wheels ° removed and the back window smashed. Police recovered the vehicle last Wednesday (Sept. 14). On Friday (Sept. 16) a Dodge Spirit was reported stolen from a Blackstock home. And a '91 Chev pick-up was stolen from Queen St. in Port Perry sometime overnight Sept. 11, police said. Police also reported that an officer charged a young offender last Tuesday (Sept.13) after spotting a car with stolen licence plates near Port Perry High School. G.I.C.
