The students of the local school learned last year that the equipment they were using was declared unsafe and was to be torn down. The communities of Green- bank and Epsom pulled togeth- er and committees were formed to come up with fundraising ide- as for a new playground. An auction held at Neil Bacon Auctions raised more than $12,000 for the schools. Local businesses and individuals do- nated more than 300 items to the auction, which was attend- ed by 500 people. Other fundraising efforts, in- cluding magazine subscriptions and chocolate bar sales, along with many other projects put the school close to its goal of $20,000. Last week the students, their parents, teachers and local dig- nitaries joined together at the school for a barbecue to cele- brate the new equipment. Trib- ute was paid to the many busi- nesses and individuals who made the new playground possi- ble. The adults were as happy as the kids last Wednesday night, when a ceremony was held to dedicate the new play- ground equipment at Epsom Public School. Amongst the youngsters are (clockwise from left) public school trustee Bobbie Drew, principal's assistant Rob Scott, Gloria Eng, chair of the playground committee, Brad Oldham, presenting a cheque from the tractor pull organizers, Sucgog Mayor Ho- ward Hall, and Ward 1 Councillor Ken Carruthers.
