"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1994 - 17 SProrTs Eric Nagler performace will benefit swim club By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star "Making music together" is the most important part of Eric Nagler's performance, the chil- dren"sentertainersays. The Brooklyn, New York na- tive will be the featured act at two shows this weekend in Ux- bridge, in benefit of the Ux- bridge Swim Club, of which many Scugog Township resi- dents are members. The entertainer uses several instruments in his show includ- ing a banjo, guitar, fiddle and spoons. He likes to have the au- dience participate fully in his shows, teaching them to start and end a tune together and how to take musical breaks. "I think v-e all miss the expe- rience of making music togeth- er, like they did in the old days. People tend to sit and watch in- stead of making the music for themselves," he said. The entertainer, who grew up learning and playing folk music in Washington Square as a child, began entertaining at a young age. He would perform with kids and families and en- Joyed them playing along. "(My show) is a true family ex- perience." Mr. Nagler enjoys playing to small groups. He said he has fo- cused his show to the grassroots level, allowing him to use small ¥ ; 1 BE wi BR Itt instruments to their full advan- tagesin small auditoriums.
