Rick McCoshen, owner of Rick's Barber Shoppe, said a good deal of interest has been expressed in the association, for which a preliminary meeting was held last week. "What I'm attempting to do is get enough people involved with the merchants' association so we can promote ourselves," Mr. McCoshen said. "The more people involved, the better." Information on the proposed association was circulated to more than 100 businesses along Water St. and in the plazas on Hwy. TA as well, said Mr. Proposed assoc McCoshen. About 20 merchants came out for a meeting last Wednesday, and other business owners have expressed interest. They've been discussing the benefits of advertising as a group and working on other promotional schemes. And there's always a benefit in hav- ing colleagues to whom you can turn for advice and analysis, he said. "It went over very well," said Mr. McCoshen. "They liked the idea of banding together, because it will be much better for everybody." On the association's agenda in the near future will be for- mulation of a constitution, and the possibility of assuming responsibility for the popular ice palace on Lake Scugog at Palmer Park. The Port Perry Kinsmen Club, which started the winter- time attraction, is looking for another organization to run it, said Mr. McCoshen. He said he'd present the project to the association's membership to iation off to a good start see if there's interest. "It's a nice attraction to have," he said.
