Information and applications are available at the high school on Wednesday evenings from 1845 hrs. (6:45 p.m.) to 2115 hrs. (9:16 p.m.). #41 P.P.H.S.C.C. is an inde- pendent army detachment placed in the school to provide an opportunity for young peo- ple, male or female, ages 12 (by Dec. 31, '94) to 18 inclusive, to acquire leadership skills and a first hand knowledge of the armed forces without any legal obligation. The program is a comprehen- sive program spanning the ba- sic level to that of the qualified instructor and ranging in activi- ties from the initial first year two or three week summer camp at CFB Borden to six week camps or exchanges across Canada or in Europe. Ac- tivities vary from learning how to instruct, parachuting, moun- tain climbing, survival training or exchanges. The program is funded by the federal government which cov- ers the cost of instructors and most operating costs. The facili- ties are provided by the Dur- ham Board of Education who sponsor the corps. Uniforms are provided by the corps but are the responsibility of the par- ents. It is unfortunate that the corps is one of the best kept se- crets in town but the secrecy lid has been lifted and it is hoped the residents of the area will take advantage of the opportu- nities offered. Even with cur- rent cutbacks, for each young person who makes full use of the cadets, the federal govern- ment will spend approximately $3,000. ) For information contact Ma- jor P.
