"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" =. Sr On Nov. 16, the Malmont squad travelled to Oak Ridges for an exhibition game. In the first period the host team capitalized on their strong forechecking and a defensive giveaway to grab a 2-0 lead. They scored an empty net marker late in the third period to cement a 3-1 well-earned win. The Malmonts had few bright spots in the game as they were out worked most of the time. Justin Moffatt, Trevor Lance and Jeff Tarbot- ton were able to do some effective forechecking of their own however. In the third period, Jamie Smith scored with a wrist shot from the blue line as the puck came back to him off the faceoff from Mike LeFort. The Port team was unable to get a shot on goal from two three on one rushes and weren't up to their usual dynamite effort in other areas of the game as well. Sometimes a little lesson such as a game like this will shake away some complacency and spur them on to new heights. On Nov. 18, the Malmont boys showed they had learned a lesson indeed, as they steam- rolled the visiting Port Hope team by a 6-0 shutout. Early in the first D'Arch Stephens made a nice save on a sharp angled shot while Port was shorthanded. Near the end of the scoreless first period, he also stopped a partial breakaway. In the second, Jeff Tarbotton broke the ice on a two on one play with assists by Trevor Lance and Justin Moffatt. About 10 seconds later, Jeff scored again by a tip-in with assists to Tim Jones and Justin Moffatt. The Malmont team was on fire now and Adam Moynes scored about 15 seconds later with assists by Mike Le- Fort and Dane Gray. Hot-handed Jeff, then completed a hat trick after a beauty pass by Atoms win two of three Trevor Lance and a helper by Justin Moffatt. Port Hope weren't able to mount any kind of comeback thanks to our relentless offense. Cap- tain, Dean used assists by Trevor Weisflock and Jamie Smith to make it 5-0. Our final marker was a power play goal by Dane after a perfect pass from Mike LeFort and an assist by Adam. How to regroup team! Coaches' best effort player was Adam Moynes. On Nov. 20 the team finished off a busy week of hockey by visiting Lindsay. The team was sluggish but came out on the high end of a 7-5 score for the win. In the first period, Adam cashed in a lucky bounce for a shorthanded goal (assists to Tyler and Dean). Trevor W. scored off arebound with assists to Mark and Dane. In the second, Mike scored on a rebound of Dean's shot. Adam assisted. Then Mark made a good backchecking play to break up a Lindsay rush. Thanks to forechecking, Dean found a di- rect path to the goal from the corner and tucked a backhand shot away to give a 4-2 goal. Trevor L. moved a nice pass to Jeff for a 5-2 lead. Justin also assisted. Trevor L. then scored with assists from Jeff and Justin. Lindsay started the third period down 6-2 but capitalized on their chances to bring the score closer to 6-5. Tim broke up a three on one play to help stem the tide. With the goalie pulled, Tre- vor Lance won a key faceoff in our zone, back to Jamie, over to Jeff at center ice and Jeff deposit- editinto the open net for the insurance goal. Coaches named Steven MacLennan as best ef- fort player in this game. Good luck to the Malmont boys as they seek revenge against Cobourg at 8 p.m., Nov. 25. See you there! : The Legionnaires were oft to St. Thomas this weekend play- ing their first game at 7 a.m. Saturday morning against Owen Sound. The Port boys came out of the chute pretty fast this morning giving Owen Sound a run for their money. Mike McLennan stood firm between the posts making some outstanding saves to keep Owen Sound from " getting on the board. However, the Owen Sound goalie was also on the money this morning. De- spite numerous attempts by Port we could not get the puck past the Owen Sound netmind- er. Owen Sound turned up the heat in the second period scor- ing three goals between 7:39 and 6:36 of the second period. Port took advantage of an Owen Sound penalty, with a nice pass from Brad Johnston to Greg Burton and then over to Jeff Ashton and in it went to put Port on the scoreboard. Owen Sound scored another goal in the third making the final scor- ing Owen Sound 5 - Port Perry 1. Our second game of the day was against Woolwich. Our man Chris Monsma was in the net for this game and he was pretty amazing, to say the least. The opposition challenged us on numerous occasions but we were not going to let this team get on the board. Nick Pelyk, Ryan McQuade, Greg Bruton, Brad Johnston, Jeff Ashton, were awesome on the power play, putting their total effort into this one. Their hustle paid off, putting Port on the board Scala hosts Uxbridge With Emiel's out of town at a tournament, Scala Bros. had the pleasure of hosting Uxbridge's Peterson Agaravates. This game featured end-to-end action with some great passing. Port Perry opened the scoring as Jon Rogalski was left alone on the doorstep to shovel in a rebound from Tom Boyd's shot. Uxbridge replied in the first period with two goals to take the lead. Scott Peterson for Uxbridge made a single effort and ri- fled a shot past goaltender Devon Symes to tie the game one apiece. The second goal was a tough one as the puck was shot out from the corner and hit Devon's catcher's glove and deflect- ed into the net. Port Perry fought back to tie the game as Ian Garnet made geveral nifty dekes around the defence to find himself alone "with the goaltender. He put a shot low in the corner. Halfway through the third period, Uxbridge pressed hard and their efforts paid off with three late goals. Give credit where credit is due - Uxbridge defence was nothing short of ex- t. gees of the game for Scala was tough to pick as 16 players played their best game to date. But we will go with Ryan Has- lam. Ryan had great defensive skills as well as rushing plays to get the puck out of our end. | We thank Uxbridge for a great game and sportsmanship. Legionnaires in St. Thomas first when Jeff Ashton let one heck of a slapshot go from th blue line, the Woolwich = 18 still looking to see where that shot came from. Port kept on the pressure letting shot after shot go on the Woolwich goalie but he would not let us by him no matter what we tried to do. Woolwich came back with their first goal shortly after ours, but within a space of three minutes they managed to rack up three more points on the board. All of our team deserves an A for effort for this game. It was an excellent game despite our loss. Final score 4-1 Woolwich. Game three Sunday morning found us playing against the host team St. Thomas. The Le- gionnaires were just getting their eyes open when the St. Thomas team blasted one past Mike McLennan between the posts at just 9:14 of the first pe- riod. Some nice passing took place in this game. We were ready for this one. Ryan McQuade carried this puck down the ice and popped in a beautiful goal to put Port on the board. Port suffered a few pen- alties in this game but all of our lines managed to kill them off very well, by keeping the puck out of our end. However, Nick Pelyk put Port ahead with a nice shot from the side of the net. St. Thomas came back to tie up the game at 1:12 of the sec- ond. It looked like Port was going to put this one in the bag in the final seconds, putting the extra forward on the ice with the face- off in front of the St. Thomas goalie but despite a tremendous effort the game ended in a 2-2 tie. It was a great weekend, boys, and good effort by all the players. Our next home game is Friday, Dec. 2, against Oshawa. A local squad skipped by Dean Haugen (kneeling) won the A 'B' trophy at the Unitel mixed zone playdowns in Whitby re- cently. In back from left are Kelly Evans (vice), John Butler (second) and Karen Parish (lead). Pineridge Tweens keep on winning Game six for the Pineridge Sports Tween Bs was played on home ice against Whitby and our girls were winners once again - final score 4-0. Lauren Christie in net for Port Perry, had a shutout this game and it was no easy feat. The Whitby team made numerous shots but with the aid of the goal posts, our goalie was able to fend these shots off. The play was fast this game with both teams carrying the ring back and forth. Our first goal of the game was a smooth one by Melissa Hooker on a pass from Emelie Levielle. Jennifer Hammond finished off the first period netting a nice goal unas- sisted. The second period saw sever- al attempts by the Pineridge girls before the "Jen" duo of Jen Imrie and Jen Donnelly carried the ring down the ice to score. Our final goal of the game was a nice play by Jackie Smith to Jennifer Hammond who found the net for her second of the game. Cathy Cooper and Kim Carrique showed excellent defensive coverage this game. Forwards Leanne Davison, Leanne Holt, Mary Justynski and Amy Wilson played another skillful game. Congratulations, girls - keep up the good work. Next game, Nov. 29, in Pick- ering Village. Eaglettes victorious The XL Gas Bar Eaglettes, Novice C Ringette team improved their record to three wins and two losses when they beat Rich- mond Hill on Saturday. The Eaglettes rang up 11 goals in the first period and six in the second on their way to a 17-1 win. Scoring for Port Perry were Nicole Ansell (five), Christine Cotie (four), Ceilidh Baxter (three), Sarah Aldridge (two), with Whitney Reid, Holly Allison and Heather Imrie netting sin- gles. Just as important were the assists made by Amanda Cur- ry (two), Whitney (two), Nicole, Christine, Sarah, Heather, Cei- lidh and Shannon Hatfield. Combined with Port Perry's overpowering offence, the tough defence put up by Jackie Pashley, Brooke Simpson, Hailey Wil- son, Jessica Doe, Shannon Urquhart and Jenna Davison left very few opportunities for Richmond Hill to score. As well, the great goaltending effort put out by Jill Hunter held the oppo- nents to just one goal. From the coaches' perspective, highlights of the game were the improved passing and defence. Keep up the good work! The Eaglettes travel to Ajax and Brooklin for the next two weeks but return home to battle Mariposa on Dec. 10.
