Bruins remain on top The Brooklin Bruins remain atop the league going 10 straight this season without a defeat after edging the Black- stock Brewers 3-2 on Sunday. Ken Lynde set up Wayne Tate within the first minute of the game giving Brooklin the early lead. This lasted until the midway point of the period when Gord Bryans tied it up with Tom Wotten drawing the assist. Tate again put Brooklin ahead as he netted another this time with help from Murray Down to round out the scoring for the first half. In the second the Bruins pulled ahead by two with Nick Att- wood setting up Ron Attwood for the eventual winner. Wotten got Blackstock to within one and in the dying moments they pulled their goaltender only to be denied the tying goal. Game two had the winless Raven's Renovations show some offense as they managed to score three in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the B&R Swampers. With this win B&R pulled into second spot a single point up on Blackstock. B&R showed most of their scoring prowess in the first period enroute to a 4-2lead. This keeps Trader's in the fourth position of the league standings at the mid season point followed by The Framer's. Leaders the same in SHL Congratulations to all those "Eagle-Eyed" readers who spotted the "small" error in last week's news! Yes it was the Monsma Chargers who pulled up into first place along side of the Harrison Blazers. The Pineridge Phantoms re- mained two points back in second place! Well, no problem because after a full slate of games this weekend, the "top three" remain in the same spots! Things should be interesting when the Harrison Blazers go head-to-head with the Monsma Chargers on Dec. 11! Hawks vs Devils Game one saw the J&D Hawks take advan- tage of a "short" Pizza Delight Devils squad and skate to a 4-1 victory. Apparently, a cer- 1 tain Saturday night "Reunion" kept the Devil playersin bed for this early match! Peter Lane scored twice for the Hawks with Ed Olsen and Doug Suppelsa picking up sin- gles. Both Ritchie LeFort and Captain Callery notched two assists while singles went to Carl Durward, Keijo Kinnunen and sponsor Joe Curran. The lone Devil goal came from a "blast" by Mike Driscoll assisted by Bill Foote and Bruce Gracie. Phantoms vs Comets Game two saw the Pineridge Phantoms stay within two points of first place with a 4-2 victo- ry over the Compton Comets. The Comets gave it a strong effort, but Shawn Parker came up bigin the Phantom cage to seal the victory. Steve Fox led the Phantom scorers with two goals and an assist. Brian Samis and Bill Van Camp had single counters. Clarence Stephen- son with two assists and singles to Samis and Fred Moffatt completed the Pineridge attack. Dave Dickson scored both goals for Compton Comets with Doug Bache picking up a pair of assists and a single credited to Jeff Johnstone. Sharks vs Chargers Game three saw the Van World Sharks give the Monsma Chargers a real battle! With the Sharks playing great hockey, the took a single goal lead into the final frame. However, a small defensive lapse coupled with a determined Charger attack, lifted the Monsma crew to a 5- 3 victory and another week tied for first place in the standings! Bill Bridge led the Chargers with a "hat trick" and an assist for a big "four point day." Paul Van Camp and Rick Olaisen had the other goals. Assists saw Jim Duncan and Dave Thompson with a pair each, and singles to Olai- gen, Tony Oxley, Brad Hurst and Duane Bron- n. "For the Sharks it was Steve Connors with a pair of counters and a single with Jay Adam, Scott Davis and Greg Fitzgerald having single helpers. Blazers vs Aces Game four saw the Harrison Blazers keep their undefeated season intact with a 5-4 victory over the Taylor Aces. This game is usually called the "Battle of the Fuel Crews" and Sunday's match proved to be a good one! The Taylor team really put the heat on the Blazers and forced Blazer goalie Ken Harman to make some tough saves to keep his team tied for first place. Blazer forward John Harman led the way with two goals and an assist, while team spon- sor Dave Harrison had three assists to help the cause. Steve Churchill, Larry Jackson and Dale Bronson had single tallies each. Single assists to round out the Blazer attack went to Jim Park, Marvin Stevenson, Richard Sakanashi and Dar- cy Milligan. For the Aces, Todd Wilbur had a strong game with two goals. Dave Brownson and John Kotar- ba had single goals as well. Ken Little had a pair of assists while Kotarba, Wayne Norton and "Legend" Sheehey were credited with single helpers. Gamblers vs Clippers Game five proved to be another exciting game as the Crandell's Gamblers took on the Fitzge- rald Clippers. The Gamblers had only a few crew members for this one, but each player gave a superb effort and the Crandell's boys edged the Clippers 4-3. Dave Bourgeois and Bryan Norton led the Gamblers with a pair of goals each. Bourgeois, Jamie Taylor, Robert Evans and Steve Groves had single assists to secure a hard fought victo- ry. For the Clippers, Larry Pilkey had a "three point day" on a pair of goals and an assist. Al Sibbald matched him with three assists, while Tom Patton had the other single counter for the Fitzgerald squad. With one week remaining to complete the No- vember schedule, week 13 in the SHL may prove to be good luck for those in need of a win! Howev- er, what does that mean for the leaders? Be sure to catch the action next Sunday at the following times: 6:45 a.m. Crandell's Gamblers vs Van World Sharks. 7:45 a.m. Harrison Blazers vs Pizza Delight Devils. 8:45 a.m. Pineridge Phantoms vs Fitzgerald Clippers. 9:45 a.m. Monsma Chargers vs Compton Comets 10:45 a.m. J&I) Hawks vs Taylor Aces. A long night 'Monday, Nov. 14 was a long night for this particular fan, (and the players, no doubt) when the Panthers were pounced upon by the "Ready " Redmen". It didn't take long for Port Hope and not Port Perry to get on the scoreboard. Seconds lat- er, Daryl Bourgeois was trying his utmost to tie things up but a big goalie save saw Daryl's ef- forts fall short. Following suit, the line of Ian Shrigley, Matt Hobbs and Jeremy Geer are passing the puck up to hopeful- ly gain some ground, but again, an over alert goalie stops them cold. During this period, the two Port teams each lose a player and with an extra man in the box, the Panthers are once again battling a power-play ad- vantage to the Redmen. Natu- rally, it doesn't take this able team long to capitalize on the situation as they net their sec- ond of the night. Nearing the end of the first, the relentless visitors further increase their lead to 3-0. Time for a wake-up call...(and less penalties). Well, I guess the coffee in the dressing room just wasn't strong enough for the Panthers, as the opposition tallies up yet another one and we're behind by four. As the second period progresses, Scott Prechitko is being assailed by an onslaught of rubber but, somehow, man- for the fans of the Panthers aged to maintain his composure and Port Hope doesn't score anymore (in this period), how- ever, our visiting bantam Shane Norton finally puts the Panthers on the board with a clever wraparound, surprising the Redmen's astute goalie. Nice going, Norty. Still in the second and with a power-play advantage, Jay King drills one right on target, but again a strong save foils his attempt. Next to take the bull by the horns is "Shrig" who winds up to fire one in - but alas his blade breaks clean away...otherwise. Jeff Clarke, Jeremy Geer and the guys are once again killing some penalties - which they should be getting pretty good at by now. Unfortunately, those rousers in red know their way in and find the spot to open up their lead to 5-1. Eventually, another power-play advantage for our battle-weary Panthers arises. Hope springs eternal as Kenton LeFort, who got crunched in th~ process, pulls up within three >n a gutsy goal, assisted by Jay Kk. ng. Despite the Panther's late rally, Port Hope remains persis- tent and it pays off in leaps 'n bounds as they finish off their big night with two more goals to end the game 7-2. Let's hope the tables will be turned at our next encounter with this well disciplined team from the other Port.
