"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 29, 1994 - 15 D> PORT PERRY STAR ORTS Sr Peewee Legionnaires crush Red Wings 8-0 Peewee Legionnaires 8 - Oshawa Dines Red Wings 0 With no game on the schedule this week for the Legionnaires, they travelled to the Oshawa Civic Auditorium for an exhibi- tion game with the Oshawa Dines Red Wings. This game turned into a "goalfest" for the boys, a chance to really display their passing and scoring ability. _ Deryk Campbell opened the scoring in the first period, with a tip in from in front of the net, on a shot by Greg Bruton and as- sisted by Sean Jeffrey. With Oshawa a man short, Deryk scored again, on a pass from Nick Pelyk, assisted by Brad Johnston. Also in the first pe- riod, Brad Johnston carried the puck the length of the ice and slipped it in the top corner to make it 3-0 Port. Chris Skerratt and Nick Pelyk got the assists. In the second period, the Legionnaires continued to control the play. Greg Bruton manhandled his way to the crease only to have the goal post get in his way. Brad Johnston and Ryan McQuade combined on a nice passing play with Ryan getting the goal. Sean Jeffrey was doing some fine puck work, really digging in when Port was shorthanded. Matt Caldwell and Steve Wygerde set up Brad Johnston with a shot to the top shelf where Mama keeps the "Baby Tylenol" making it a 5-0 hockey game. The second period ended when Nick Pelyk, who was set up by Sean Jeffrey and Brad Johnston, made no mistake put- tingitby the Oshawa goalkeeper. : In the third period, with thoughts of a shutout for Port Perry netminder, Chris Monsma, the boys turned its defense up a notch. Greg Bruton scored from the slot assisted by Ryan McQuade and Sean Jeffrey. Brad Johnston scored his third of the night, clinching the hat trick, making the final score 9-0 Le- gionnaires. Brad's goal was assisted by Ryan McQuade and WER ies Hiv ~ rd -- ¥ KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRY STAR The Intermediate boys volleyball team from S.A. Great game, guys! Auctioneers win hard-fought match against Stouffville On Monday, Nov. 21, Port Perry Pearce Auctioneers Ma- jor Novice won a hard-fought game against Stouffville. There was end-to-end action with a score of 1-0 for Stouffville at the end of the first period. Kevin Robins scored for Port Perry 17 seconds into the sec- ond period to tie the game, but Stouffville came back at 8:38 to again take the lead. Jesse Mis- chitian, who was brought from house league to sub for an ab- sent player, scored at 6:16 to make it a tie game going into the third period, when the Auc- tioneers turned up the heat. The defence, Justin Shinn, Ryan Hnatko, Gordon Smith and Justin Koury made some excellent plays, stopping sever- al Stouffville rushes and get- ting the puck up to the for- wards. Tyler Weisflock, Alex Nico- lau, Lucas Fraser, Jordan Froats, Pat Lewis, Jesse Mis- chitian, Kevin Robins, Joey Lane and Teddy Howarth skat- ed hard, keeping the pressure on the Stouffville defence and goaltenders. Jesse and Pat both scored in the third period and Joey completed the Auction- eers' scoring by dumping one in Stouffville's empty net in the last minute of play. The combination of aggres- sive forwards, good defence and great goaltending by Scott Hon- ey and Kurtis Wagar prevented Stouffville from scoring again, making it 5-2 for the Auction- eers. Assists in the game went to Teddy Howarth, Joey Lane, Tyler Weisflock and two for Gordon Smith. The Pearce Auctioneers met with the Peterborough Nation- als for the first time on Friday night. The Nationals were up two goals in the first period. Our defence of Justin Koury, Ryan Hnatko, Justin Shinn and Gordon Smith cleared our end, helping goalies Scott Honey and Kurtis Wagar in a scoreless sec- ond period. The third period turned around when Peterborough scored again, and our forwards of Kevin Robins, Joey Lane, Jesse Mischitian, Teddy How- arth, Tyler Weisflock, Alex Ni- colau, Lucas Fraser, Jordan Froats and Pat Lewis turned up the heat and kept the pressure on, resulting in two goals by Ke- vin Robins and Teddy Howarth on some great breakaways. The Nationals scored another mark- er, bring the score to 4-2. On Sunday, the Auctioneers travelled to Belleville, this was their second meet with this team. It was end-to-end action the whole game. Kurtis Wagar and Scott Honey were solid in net against the ever-pressing Belleville squad. Kevin Robins shot one past the Belleville net- minder with an assist to Joey Lane latein the first period. At the end of the second peri- od, Joey Lane popped one in off the stick of Jordan Froats. The Auctioneers all tried their best and worked hard in this second game. The Pearce Auctioneers' next home game is Friday night for a first meet with Lindsay and a tournament on the weekend in Beaverton. Good luck, guys! ton and Mrs. Morrison. Goalscorers were Tyler Houthuys, Jamie Smith, Mark Duncan, Adam Moynes, Jeff Tar- botton, Trevor Lance, Trevor Weisflock (two), Dane Gray (three), and Dean Van Camp (three). D'Arcy made an exciting second period save as he came way out of his net to clear the puck. Georgetown broke up the shutout on a second period shorthanded goal. Later in the day our team could have used some of those Georgetown goals as they came up short against Walkerton by a 5-3 score. An imbalance in "sin-bin" time didn't help the Malmont cause. Walkerton went up 1-0 on a deflection. They then went up 2-0 after a successful three on one rush. Dean scored a shorthanded goal and lat- er scored on a backhand shot (assist by Mike LeFort). At the end of the first, the Malmonts were still close but losing 3-2. In the second, Port took several penalties in a row. Adam and Dean had good shorthanded opportunities. By the end of the second Wal- kerton had re-established a 4-2 lead. Justin Moffatt and goalie Mike Koury were doing their best to keep the score close. In the third, we couldn't close the gap. Dean closed out his hat trick from Scott Duncan and Jamie Smith as he knocked a puck out of mid air. Our final tournament game was against Lis- towel and this ought to have been a win for Port but the team had to pull our goaltender despite points that might have given us a shot at the fi- nals. The tournament format gave points for winning a period as well as the game. Final score was a 3-3 tie. D'Arcy kept us in the game with some good vor Lance had good chances in the first. In the second, Adam scored on a rebound with assists by Mike and Tim. Then Adam and Dean almost capitalized on a two on one break. Dean to put us up 2-1.
