Mrs. Christie, who won her third straight term as regional councillor 1n this fall's munic- ipal elections, is in hospital at Toronto's St. Michael's, undergoing testing for a con- dition that has kept her feel- ing low for the past several months. Scugog Township Administrator Earl Cuddie visited Mrs. Christie in her hospital room Sunday to administer oaths for township and regional councils, meet- ing Monday's deadline. "She underwent some tests here," Mr. Cuddie said Monday morning. "She was in hospital for five or six days. "Then the doctors decided they didn't know what it was, so they shipped her off to Toronto and St. Mike's, and she's been undergoing tests for the last week." Mrs. Christie hoped to be out of hospital sometime this councillors take oaths a YVONNE CHRISTIE week, said the administrator. Monday's swearing-in at Scugog council chambers saw Mayor Howard Hall returning for a third consecutive term. PPHS students have a look at working world on career day By Trevor Hayman The Port Perry High School 10/10 Stay in School Committee organized a Grade 10 career day for Nov. 30. Students were given the op- portunity to gather information about different careers, as well as participate in a workshop on presentation skills and inter- viewing techniques. Grade 10 students were given this opportunity on recommen- dation from the Stay in School Committee's survey of last year. That survey showed that, even though Port Perry High School doesn't have a high drop-out rate, Grade 10 seems to be the year that most students consid- er leaving school. Because of these results, the committee thought it crucial to show these students the bene- fits gained by staying in school. The career day was held the same day that Grade 9 students went to work with a parent or mentor. These initiatives are aimed at showing students ear- ly on in high school the rewards of education, and encouraging goal setting. There were several speakers on a variety of careers in an at- tempt to appeal to the wide range of interests that the stu- dents had.
