Greg Thompson opened things up on a nice breakaway pass from Kevin Hobbs to net us our first goal. Seconds later, the Clippers, showing some hustle of their own, tieit up. There is not much the refer- ees are letting go by on this stormy night!! Both goalies are doing the same and not allowing anything to get past them until, a superb setup from Matt Hobbs to Ian McCready and then on to Jay Novice House League features heroic goalies Novice House League The first game of the Novice House League for Dec. 3 was a very close back and forth type of game with the goalies being the heroes of the day. Kellen Jack- son for Port Perry Printing and Clay Trainor for Re/Max had ex- cellent games as they held the score at 2-1 for the Printing boys. Re/Max opened the scoring the first period as Jesse Mullins scored on a break-away with a backhand shot. There was no more scoring until the third pe- riod despite great efforts by Craig Kehoe and Mitchell Saud- er for the Re/Max team and Brad Layzell and Mitchell Tru- ax for the Printing team. Halfway through the third period, Port Perry Printing tied it up on an unassisted goal by Justin Sanders. Within 20 sec- onds, Jon Breen scored with the assist going to David McGarry to leave the game at 2-1 for Port Perry Printing. Kyle Geer for Re/Max and Michael Redman for the Printing team get the good hustle award for this game. The second game of the day was a close one through the first two periods as the score was tied at 2-2 going into the third period. However, the Van Camp team caught fire and scored six goals to the lone goal for Hau-- gen's team to leave the score at 8-3. Jesse Mischtian for the Van Camp team scored six goals, most of them unassisted, as he was flying for this game. Tyler Martin picked up two assists and Darryl Copithorn picked up one assist on Jesse's goals. Tyl- er picked up a goal of his own with the assists going to Darryl and Jesse. Alex McKay rounded out the scoring for the Van Camp team with the assists go- ing to Matt Menear and Troy Johnston. Matthew Kamminga picked up two unassisted goals for the Haugen's team while Joseph Kozlinsky picked up the other goal. Stephen Groves played well at the blue line for the Van Camp team and Matthew Char- ron gets the good hustle award for the Haugen's team. In the games played on Dec. 10, Haugen's squared off against Port Perry Printing. Matthew Charron picked up two goals, with assists going to Dave Dekoning and Matt Kam- minga for the Haugen's team. Joseph Kozlinsky scored two goals also with the assist going to Steve Guthrie, Jon Taylor and Reid Harris. Darren Black scored from Kyle Pett and Scott Stone. Craig Simmonds, Billy Britt and Brad Layzell scored unas- sisted goals for Port Perry Printing while Chris Jackson picked up a goal with the assist going to Craig. Mark Vernest scored two goals, one unassisted and the other on a pass from Tyler Martin. Darryl Copithorn picked up a goal with the assist going to Matt Sutherland. John Dutka scored with Jesse Misch- tian picking up the assist. Jesse and Blake McLaughlin picked up unassisted goals. Just a note to the parents of the Novice House League to watch the board at the rink whenever you are there to see when the teams have ice time over the Christmas vacation and a reminder that there are two games for each team sched- uled through the week in the second week of the break. King who pops it in and puts us in the lead once more. In the second period, our Pan- thers are on the prowl and real- ly starting to annoy those clip- pers. This must have been all the Stouffville boys needed as suddenly we're tied again. What a game so far. Stouffville comes very close to gaining some ground on a great chance but John Babcock saves our skin with a big save on this one. This game is fast paced in the last remaining minutes of the period and there is "not much room at the inn" or so it would seem by the number of penalties. Unfortunately the Clippers grab this chance to zoom ahead by one goal. Not for long, as Port comes back seconds later with a goal by Matt Hobbs assisted by Jay King and Jay Strickert. It's now 3-3 going into the third. After the flood, everyone is set for a big finish. Both teams are fighting hard in this period and the goaltending is strong. Stouffville is the first to in- crease their lead and that unfor- tunately is all she wrote folks. Although the Panthers never say die, they eventually run out of time on the clock and the final score is 4-3 Clippers. It was worth the snowy journey to see you play so well. Thanks also to Shane Norton and Jay Strickert fresh from a Bantam practice in Port for lending us their fine services. Monday night and with a full squad, we're back in the saddle again!! This time on home ice and following a great Bantam game also against Cobourg, the stage is set. Tonight Scott Pre- chitko takes the reins and quickly looks sharp on numer- ous attempts by Cobourg to get the ball rolling. The Panthers are battling hard in the first and late in the period go ahead on a goal by Tommy Chambers. Following a short intermis- sion, Kenton slides one over to Jay King who fires a shot from the blue line. Daryl Bourgeois is there for a rebound and it's now 2-0 Panthers. That ought to wake up Cobourg!! Not soon enough however, as Jay and Daryl get something go- ing once again and Daryl grabs his second of the night. Nice work fellas. Cobourg is really getting testy at this point and the Panthers who haven't had a penalty during the game so far, are finally confined to that little square box. The guys have really been hustling throughout the entire game. Chris Drury (who is no slouch himself) has been mixing it up with the big boys and help- ing kill off some penalties. At the 12:00 minute mark in the third, Cobourg is still strug- gling to get past Scottie and the lads. Foiled again!! They don't give up however and finally at the 7:30 mark, Scott's shut out is history as they manage to find an opening and score. We find ourselves short-handed in the dying minutes of the game. As a last ditch attempt, the Cobourg coach pulls his goalie in favor of an extra attacker but even with six skaters our Pan- thers can't be beaten and Matt Hobbs ends the game with an empty nettér for a final 4-1 vic- tory. Thanks for a good game guys. Don't miss the action Monday nights right after the Bantam games when the Port Perry Panthers take to the ice!
