The Fourth Sunday of Ad- vent was celebrated at Greenbank United Church. The candle of love was lit by the Layzell family and Kate- lyn Lee placed the flame on the pulpit banner for the Sunday School. The choir sang two beautiful Christ- mas anthems and Hugh Baird sang a lovely Christ- mas solo entitled "Lullaby". Christmas Eve services will be held in Greenbank Church starting at 7:30 p.m. but come early for the carol sing. Christmas services for the United Church during the holi- days are as follows: Dec. 24, Christmas Eve and Commun- ion Service will be at 8:30 p.m. in Utica Church; Dec. 25, at 10 a.m. an informal service around the tree jointly in the Goodwood Church; Jan. 1, New Year's Day service at 10 a.m. at Epsom" Church. It is with sadness that we heard of the passing of a former Epsom neighbor and friend, El- sie Prentice. Sympathy to Gor- don and family in their bereave- ment. Sympathy also to Harry Bol- ton and family in the passing of his mother. The Sunday School concert on Sunday evening was well at- tended and the children per- formed at their very best. The Christmas story "The Littlest Shepherd Boy Gift" was told and a skit "Santa Stuck in the Chimney" was acted out. They sang carols, played musical in- struments and accompanied singing with playing of the bells. Children were presented with candy bags, compliments of Mrs. Fielding. This was fol- lowed by a social time and re- freshments. The Oak Hills - Mast Road neighbors got together on Sun- day afternoon in Utica Hall for their second annual Christmas party. Approximately 48 chil- dren enjoyed the gingerbread houses which they decorated and the scavenger hunt. The older girls played the piano while the rest sang carols. San- ta visited and presented each child with a Santa bag full of toys, etc. There was also an ap- pearance by The Birthday Bear. A buffet was enjoyed by chil- dren and adults. This event was started with an idea by Marion Meyers and with the help of oth- er parents has been a real suc- cess in getting to know the neighbors and meeting other children. Happy birthday to Elissa Beelby who will be eight years old on Dec. 28. Birthday greetings to Erin Stack who was nine years old last Wednesday, Dec. 14. Some of her friends enjoyed a sleep- over on Friday night and swim- ming at Swim Kids on Satur- day. Sympathy of the community to Nancy Skelding and family in the passing of sister-in-law Mrs. Don (Bev) Lake whose fu- neral was on Saturday in Bow- manville. I'm pleased to report that Joy Hertzberg is home following her week in Community Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Crosier accompanied Jean and Bruce Beare to Oshawa on Sunday and enjoyed a Christmas dinner with the Beare family at the home of grandson Dean and family. Hillis, Carol and Carolyn Wil- bur attended their Beare family Christmas on Sunday at the home of Barry and Renee Beare in Port Perry. There were 19 1/2 tables of euchre played on Friday eve- ning in Utica Hall with the fol- lowing winners: Ladies First Myrtle Gimblett, Second Grace Bassant, who also had the most lone hands (five), Third Verna Slute and Low Lorraine Geer. Happy birthday wishes go to Herb Hatch, Phyllis Wray, Alma Colwell and Michelle Zid- ner. Sincere sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Ruby Short and her family in the death on Tuesday of last week of her husband, Cliff, following an illness of one week, in Ross Me- morial Hospital, Lindsay. His funeral was held on Friday. George Hill, Amanda and Evan lit the Fourth Candle of "Love" at the church service on Sunday. The Sunday School theme was "About to be born - what gift can we give for Christ's birthday?'. A candle was also lit in memory of Clif- ford Short. The choir sang Mens First Bruce Houghland, Second John Sheridan, Third Don Geer and Low Fred Taber. Freeze-out winners were Grace Hopkins and Joan Fleming, Ma- rie Geer and Bernice Appleton were second. Draws were won by Vera Fawns, Verna Smith, Elsie Pogue, Irwin Kydd, Sarah Kight and Jean Ward. The 50/ 50 draw was won by Les Meyers and Aylmer Hood and Christ- mas cake won by Leona Butson. Carrying prizes were also four people who will remain name- less as I didn't remember to get their names. Christmas goodies and refreshments were enjoyed by all. There will be one more euchre before the new year and it will be on Dec. 30, so plan to attend. Next week, news will be sub- mitted by Judy MacSween so give her a call at 985-7251. Enjoy a 'light tour' "Only a Baby Came". Kerrin Alyssa, daughter of Darrel and Kathryn Clement, was baptized at the church ser- vice. There were four genera- tions present on Kathryn's side, Alyssa's grandparents, Bill and Karen Huestis and the great- grandparents Clark and Lillian Ross. Darrel's parents were also present, - along with other guests. Rev. David Shepherd chose for his sermon "A Likely Story". The Christmas Eve service will be at Greenbank Church at 7:30 p.m., preceded by carol singing at 7 p.m. Christmas Day service for all three congregations will be at "Seagrave Church at 10 a.m. The church service on New Year's Day will be at the usual time, 9:30 a.m." Take time to drive around the community to enjoy the beauti- ful display of Christmas lights and decorations. Anne and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. Christmas Thursday evening was the special Christmas euchre with 14 tables. The winners were Heidi Krieg, Verna Slute, Mar Poots, Earla Hill, Isobel McCul- ley, Gary Munro, Harry Hill and George Harper. There were a number of lucky draws given out. There will'be a euchre on Thursday, Dec. 22 but no eu- chre Dec. 29. A large number of family and friends came to wish Grace Bea- cock a very happy 80th birth- day. Grace had lived in the Prince Albert - Port Perry area for many years and been active euchre held in church work and wrote tor the Port Perry Star for many years. On Sunday, the Fourth Ad- vent Candle was lit by Doug and Linda McMillan. Melissa Pere- man and Kelly Plain played a flute duet "At Christmas Time". The choir, under the leadership of Debra Gray, sang a lovely an- them. There will be a special Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m., everyone welcome. Sun- day service at Port Perry 11 a.m. Doug and Linda McMillan hosted a pre-Christmas get to- gether for the Fishley family on Sunday when 40 attended. Ralph and Dianne McCul- lough had their families on Sun- day for Christmas dinner. If you see Dorothy Hope on Christmas Eve, wish her a hap- py birthday.
