% PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, December 28 1994 - 15 "A Family Tradition for 128 Years" SPORTS A---- Dec. 23, Port Perry's t Atoms hosted the e Clippers and ab- sorbed gf 3-1 loss to them. The Clipper§ must have felt that our boys were demonstrating the Christmas spirit of "giv- Ing" as we gave them their first two goals on penalties. In the first period, Trevor Weisflock showed a burst of speed to make a nice back- checking play to assist the de- fence. Then Jeff Tarbotton made a good pass on a two-on- one to give Justin Moffatt a partial breakaway. Stouffville took a penalty (more of the Christmas spirit!) and within four seconds, Mike LeFort had won the faceoff back to Dean Van Camp who pumped an \ elusive wrist shot into the far corner. This would be our only score of the game. With the of- | fence working well still, Tre- vor Lance made a good pass to Scott Duncan cruising into the slot. D'Arcy Stephens made a good save on a giveaway Stouffville chance. Tim Jones and Dane Gray did good defen- sive work on a short-handed situation. Period two opened with a flashy glove save by D'Arcy off another giveaway. Then a Clipper was left all alone in front again and D'Arcy was again equal to the task. Steve MacLennan made a'nifty spin move behind the net to elude a forechecker. Jeff was frustrat- ed by the strong Stouffville goalie on a breakaway a little while later. Once again our de- fence stopped a Stouffville power play with hard work from Tyler Houthuys, Adam Moynes, Mark Duncan and Ja- mie Smith. D'Arcy covered the post well on a wraparound play to keep usin a 1-0 lead go- inginto the third period. Despite controlling 80 per cent of the game, our reps lost control of the momentum in the middle of the third. D'Arcy came up big on a two-on-one break-away and then on a point blank shot. For the sec- ond league game in a row, the Techstars were terrible. After an early goal by Dillan Weber, assisted by Dave Gainey and Ryan Puckrin, they seemed to go into a sleep. While the Techstars played like tykes, Oshawa scored three unan- swered goals. At flood time be- tween the second and third, it was 3-1 Oshawa. The Techstars seemed to wake up a bit. They narrowed the gap to one when Puckrin scored on a scramble in front of TechStars rebound from terrible match the net. Assists went to Gavin Baxter and Tyler Wooten. Later in the period, the Tech- stars tied it up on another scramble in front and Ian Par- liament scored from Puckrin and Dan Lyons. Doug Short did an awesome Jobin net as he was left alone on many occasions to stop the Oshawa attack. The Techstars want to thank Tyler Wooten for filling in for the absent regulars.
