"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 10, 1995 - 11 Scugog approves grant for new Greenbank Lions site By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Scugog Township Council will allocate $7,000 to a picnic shelter for Greenbank Park, provided the organizers' other forms of funding go as planned. The Greenbank Community Project, spearheaded by the Greenbank's Lions Club, is in- tended to be the central focal point for any activity in the com- munity. The Lions Club began plan- ning the project a year ago as a solo project, but has since enlist- ed the aid of Greenbank area churches, Guide and ball groups to help with the multi-purpose pavilion. The Park and Hall Boards will be looking after the day to day operation of the shel- ter. Larry Doble, president of the Lions Club, told council the pro- ject will cost $36,000, with an operating budget of about $7,000 a year. Model seminar offered Beginning model railroaders will have the opportunity to ob- tain a basic knowledge of the hobby's fundamentals at the Central Ontario Division (COD) Beginners Clinics being held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Durham College - Room 1006, at the cor- ner of Simcoe Street North & Conlin Road, Oshawa, Ontario from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admis- sion is free. Attendance is limit- ed to the first 100 registrants. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. The clinics will cover the five most basic areas of Model Rail- roading; i.e. Benchwork, Tracklaying, Wiring, Scenery - and Kit Building. Each clinic will consist of a 30 minute pres- entation followed by a short question and answer period. Each clinic will be conducted by an experienced Model Railroad- er, who is highly skilled and knowledgeable in his respective area. The Central Ontario Division was formed to allow fellow mod- elers in the area to meet and ex- change ideas, to provide regular programs and live clinics to aid ~ modelers in improving their modeling skills, and to help modelers gain more enjoyment from the hobby. The COD oper- ates under the auspices of the Niagara Frontier Region of Na- tional Model Railroad Associa- tion. These organizations are dedicated to the premise that Model Railroadingis fun! The building, which has been scaled down from a 40'x100' model to 35'x60 will be used for ball tournaments, church bar- becues, jamborees and any oth- er community function, which the current facilities do not al- low. The committee is planning to call a meeting with its user groups to help decide on the ap- propriate location for the shel- ter.
