The rookie Liberal MP announced last week he'll be attending the Parliamentarians for Global Action Forum at the UN Jan. 23 and 24. The Global Action forum has representation from 28 countries and meets annually. "How Canada can develop international markets, to understand why Bosnia and Chechnya are in ruins, why Canada is expected to play a leading role on the international stage and Srovide young men and women for SHEPHERD war-torn areas are questions I think Canadians would like to have answers to," said Mr. Shepherd, a Seagrave residents elected in 1993. Mr. Shepherd said among his concerns will be the foreign aid provided by Canada. "Canada has been very generous on the international stage, but at what price?" Mr. Shepherd said. "I'd hate to think we are thought of as an easy mark globally." Mr. Shepherd noted that he'll pay his own expenses to New York. | St. John Ambulance offering courses in township this year All it takes to save a life is knowing how. And the Durham Region branch of St. John's Ambulance is bringing that know-how to Scugog, with the introduction of a number of life saver and CPR courses this year. St. John Ambulance offers a variety of courses for everyone from parents to baby sitters and outdoorsmen as well, said marketing coordinator Lianne Rennick. "We are hoping to encourage people to update their first aid," she said. "After people have taken a course, there's a sense of secu- rity in knowing they can handle a situation," she added. "They're able to be in control of situations when they happen." Courses are carried out throughout the year, and St. John has just issued its calendar Uestons and Anse abou ie recovery" Q. Since my husband died about four weeks ago, I've noticed a "weak feeling." I had a check-up with my doctor and he says I'm fine. Is this normal? A. Yes. There are several symptoms that are common to people who grieve. A feeling of muscle weakness is one. Others include a tightness in the throat and chest, a need for sighing, an empty feeling in the abdomen and a sense of numbness. As your bereavement progresses you will find this weakness less noticeable. I advise you to talk to other widows and I believe you will find this to be a very common symptom that works itself out as you become more in control of your life. *Questions from bereavement classes are answered here by the editor of AfterLoss, the monthly grief-recovery help letter.
