an "A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 24, 1995 - 11 Mojacks, police to meet In benefit By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Members of the Durham Regional Police Force will take to the ice against the Port Perry ModJdacks this Thursday evening in a bene- fit hockey match. The game is a way of say- ing thank you to a communi- ty that showed it cared for po- lice officers shot in the October 20 bank robbery in Port Perry. According to Sgt. Roy Good, the idea for the game was the brainstorm of Con- stables Warren Ellis and Mark McConkey and Detec- tive Paul Mooy. The wounded officers wanted to show their appre- ciation for the support they and their families received after the shootings. Community Memorial Hospital, which will be the benefactor of the match, was chosen because it is close to the community's heart and the officers all received their initial care at the local hospi- tal, before being transferred toother medical facilities. It is hoped that the other two shooting victims, bank manager Alan Knight and real estate agent Debra-Ann Taylor will also be in atten- dance for the game. Constables Ellis and McConkey were shot on Octo- ber 20 as they arrived on the scene in their cruiser, Const. Ellis in the forehead and Const. McConkey in the jaw. Detective Mooy sustained se- vere injuries to his arm when the gunmen opened fire in the Port Perry Plaza. The two teams will face off in a 6 p.m. tilt at Scugog Are- na. The match is slated to be two hoursinlength. Tickets are $3 each and are available at the Port Perry Star, Pineridge Sports, Lake- side Golf and Hockey Centre, Chamber of Commerce, Sea- grave Country Store, Coun- try Convenience Store and from the Port Perry ModJacks Hockey Club.
