Commissioner of Planning DURHAM REGION Nestleton racer, 24, running on adrenaline behind wheel By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Lyndon Greene runs on adrenaline when it comes to showroom stock road racing. The 24-year- old Nestleton native finished fifth in the points standings last year in his first year of competitive racing in the circuit. Driving a 1989 Chev Lyndon Greene, 24, of Nestleton has been racing in the showroom Camaro (# 165) stock road racing circuit and finished fifth in his first year of racing. he purchased last year, Mr. Greene's best finish was second at the Labor Day event at Mosport Inter-national Speedway. The car he purchased has been driven at Molson Indy races, in both Toronto and Vancouver. Sponsored locally by Ken Edwards Auto Service, Nick Oram Auto Body and Quartertech Motorsport, Mr. Greene will be adding the Muscular Dystrophy decals to his car this year in an act of free membership. : Because he feels everyone likes auto racing and can relate to it, he has affiliated with the : __ organization to give it some "much-deserved recognition." "Pm hoping to give something back to the community by "raising support for them. It's a charity I think deserves a little more attention," he said. Mr. Greene began racing cars four years ago at the amateur level and last year decided it was time to tackle the international tracks. He began racing on the Solo 1 and Solo 2 series of races, which are amateur club races, before making the jump to the "professional" circuit. Last July two of Mr. Greene's friends jumped on board to help him in his racing. Scugog Township residents Addam Jorz and Ray Edwards, whom Mr. Greene says are a "great help," both serve as mechanics for his car. The MSC 150 Showroom stock road racing is a one-hour endurance race, which sees 40-50 cars on average in a field. The x drivers Byotage between 50-55 laps per Acs and with speeds of 3 up to 140 crashes are expected, but they are not something LYNDON GREENE Mr. Greene worries much about. Although he has been involved in some terrific smashes, he says that once he sits in the car he is focused on one thing; racing, and that's it. "It's all adrenaline as soon as you sit behind the wheel," he said. The races, which begin in May, involve drivers from all over North America and go once a month at both Mosport and Shannonville race tracks. Four of this year's eight races will be telecast on TSN (The Sports Network). He is also hoping to make a trip to Quebec to compete this year. Mr. Greene and his crew will be holding a fundraising dance on March 25 at the Nestleton Community Centre to earn money for team jackets and equipment. While he loves the sport and wants to continue to race cars, his main objective is to not make a living at the sport, but for it to simply pay for itself. "I don't want to quit my job. I just want the car racing to be self-sufficient, to pay for itself and offset the costs," the United Auto Ports of Port Perry manager said.
