RU IROTEY BY BI DI PIP Y VAY I OTS RAL Ro Tobogan fun planned for next Sunday - Our Sunday School is holding a Family Social time "Tobog- ganing/Cross Country Skiing" on Sunday, Feb. 5 at the farm of Tom, Valerie, Ken and Jill Hunter, from 1:30-4 p.m. A fun day has been planned so come and enjoy the outdoors with hot chocolate and snacks in the heated hut. . Don't forget Church starts on Sundays at 11 a.m. (families gather together), Sunday School dismissed at 11:10 to gather downstairs for classes until noon. The Sunday School children starting Feb. 5 and running for six weeks, will be taking part in a Bible Basket- ball Team Tournament. So all young people are invited to come out and join in this fun competition of memory and ath- letic skills combined. Next Sunday, Feb. 5, coffee and muffin time before church at 10:15a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 is the first meeting of 1995 for the UCW. The Fidelis Unit meets at 1:30 p.m. and the Evening Unit meets at 8 p.m. All ladies of the community are invited to at- tend. It was nice to have the choir back after their post-Christmas hiatus and they have practice on Thursday evenings. If you enjoy singing, why not come out and join the choir. "All You Can Eat" Spaghetti Supper on Feb. 12, starting at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pre-purchased tickets are encouraged, so con- tact any member of the Youth Group and help support this busy group of young people. The monthly euchre party will be Friday evening, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. in Greenbank Hall. Eve- ryone is welcome to enjoy this social time. Last Saturday evening Mur- ray and I enjoyed visiting with friends Jim and Carolyn Beaton at their home in Oshawa. Instead of a thought for the week, we have a Food for Thought: To check your resis- tance, stop at a doughnut shop and only order coffee. Sparks soon to be flying in area Attention parents in Sea- grave, Mariposa and Robin- glade - If you have girls too young for Brownies, a Sparks group is being organized. For girls five to six years of age who would be interested in some fun and making new friends, please call Sandra at 985-0455 for more information. Better health is wished for Jacqueline Kniewasser who is a patient in Wellesley Hospital, Toronto and to Jim McLeod who is in Community Memorial Hospi- tal, as well as to the several lo- ¢al residents who have recently returned home from hospital and are recovering there. Blackstock was well repre- sented at the benefit concert held in Scugog Island United Church for the Youth Challenge International arranged by Kate Barber. Kate will be in Guyana with YCI this summer working on community projects. The out- standing concert featuréd Mi- chael Barber and Michelle Benting. Kate and Michael are daughter and son of Elaine Bar- ber, a former student minister in Blackstock and presently minister at Scugog Island. Those who attended report an excellent evening. There were 16 tables at the Tuesday evening weekly card party with the following win- ners: Louise Lowery, Paul Re- migon, Myrtle Gimblett, Kay Beggs, Bernice Wells, Merv Storrie and Gordon Finney. Lucky draws were won by Char- lie Stapleton, Betty Hockley, John Kuyer, Earla Hill, Bernice Ranton, Betty Kuyer, Ann Za- porazan and Don Geer. Plans are well underway for the annual Fletcher Bonspiel which will be held at the local arena on Saturday, Feb. 4. Even if you don't wish to play, specta- tors are always welcome. If you wish to join the group for a roast beef dinner, extra tickets are available by calling either Fred Ford or Jodie Duff. Members of the Blackstock Agricultural Society who are planning to attend the OAAS convention in February, please contact me at 986-4257 as soon as possible. Please call Sandra before the end of February if you are interested in enrouing your daughter. Robinglade Estates Womens Group's next meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 8. Happy birthday wishes go out to Heather Wray and Clarence Cameron. Church News Rev. David Shepherd con- ducted the covenanting of the church officers at the church service on Sunday. His sermon was "All You Really Need". The choir sang "Give Me Oil". Next Sunday is Christian Unity Sunday when all the churches in Scugog are invited to the Victory Christian Centre for the annual Service of Chris- tian Unity at 7 p.m. Please note change of date for brunch - it is being held on Feb. 26 after church. Benefit Concert Scugog Island United Church was pleased to host a Benefit Concert for Kate Barber on Sun- day evening. The church was filled to capacity with an enthu- siastic crowd to support Kate's fundraising efforts for her up- coming trip to Guyana with Youth Challenge International. The crowd was thrilled with the delightful performance of Mi- chael Barber and Michelle Bert- ing. This accomplished duo kept their audience wanting more and they finished the evening with an encore number called "From A Distance". Refresh- ments were served by the Grace UCW and the Head UCW fol- lowing the concert, allowing people to speak to Kate, Mi- chael and Michelle. We wish Kate well with her project and we look forward to hearing Ee -------- Church hosted benefit more details later. Scugog Island United Church The Church has many activi- ties and meetings planned for February so please mark your calendars accordingly. The Lectionary Bible Study Group will meet on Tuesday, Jan.31at1:30 p.m. : The High School Supper Club will begin meeting again on Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 6-7:30 p.m. Brighten up your winter with a morning coffee break at Pog- gy's Place. Between 9-9:30 a.m. every morning during Febru- ary, plan to drop by Poggy's for your morning coffee. The Grace UCW will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. at the home of Pat Taylor. Moms and Tots Take-A- Break will begin on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 10-11:30 a.m. at S.I.U.C.
