--- 4- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, Tuesday, February 7, 1995 Accredited for three more years Hospital receives a 'glowing' report By Jeff Mitchell Port Perry Star Port Perry's Community Memorial Hospital has been given a five-star rating by the country's accreditation body. Officials at the local hospital learned this past week that community Memorial has been given accreditation -- and a glowing assessment -- as a result of a two-day inspection that took place here in November. The hospital had to comply with and meet rigorous stan- dards to obtain the seal of approval from the Canadian Council of Health Service Accreditation, said Connie Jamieson, director of human resources at Community Memorial. "(Accreditation) means we meet and exceed in many cases these requirements," she said Thursday. "It means we can prove we deliver high-quality care; it means we meet our stated mis- sion." A two-person team from Alberta --Dr. Prem Chengalath and team leader Doreen Little -- spent two days at the Port Perry hospital in November last year, observing day-to-day operations and talking with staff from various departments, as well as patients and their visitors. They also carried out some community consultation away from the hospital, to gauge the perception of the facility among Scugog residents. The result was a report that gave Community Memorial high marks in all categories. "The board, management, medical, nursing, clinical and support staff are commended for the quality of care they deliv- er," says a summary of the report written by the surveyors. "There is an atmosphere of caring throughout the facility and everyone has worked hard to comply with the accreditation standards." JEFF MITCHELL / PORT PERRY STAR Staff at Community Memorial Hospital admire the plaque proclaiming the institution's ac- creditation. The hospital received a great evaluation from inspectors, who spent two days here talking to staff, patients, and members of the community. Community Memorial's last accreditation was in 1991; hos- pitals must apply for accredita- tion every three years. It is a voluntary measure, but Mrs. Jamieson said most hospitals seek accreditation.
