Our Deepest Sympathy! Our sympathy goes out to son Peter Chnistie and all other members of the Christie family in the sad loss of a beloved per- son, Yvonne Christie this past week. She was a pillar of strength to so many! Loved and highly respected and had a wide circle of friends. Yvonne will be sadly missed but always re- membered, working hard in whatever she had undertaken! We shall cherish her memory! Nestleton United Church On Sunday, Feb. 26 Transfig- uration (Last of Epiphany) a smaller attendance due to cold weather. Warm greeters at the door were Linda Arbuckle and her daughters Colleen and Mar- ilyn. Rev. The children were delighted with their story as well! Lovely old hymns were sung: "Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven," "Fairest Lord Jesus," - "All Things Bright and Beauti- ful," and "We Plough The Fields and Scatter." (many old favor- ites in these hymns I tell you). Karen Yellowlees was the fine organist! Offering taken by Linda and Marilyn Arbuckle and the Dox- ology was sung. Very best wishes for good health to Norman Rohrer who is presently in Port Perry Commu- nity Hospital and Marion Hall and Ruth Thompson from the Villa. Sincerity : A voice with a smile...and a handclasp thats true Are said to be wonderful as- sets to you They're surely a help...if you first getit clear That the smile and the shake must be wholly sincere! Your speech may be halting - your manner reserved But out of your way, no man ever served - who caught, spite of hurry and haste to get by That glint of sincerity right there in your eye! Nestleton Presbyterian Church The service at 11 a.m. in Nes- tleton Presbyterian Church was in charge of Rev. Wm. Fair- ley. Joyce Taylor was organist and Oliver Rohrer and Barney McCabe ushers. Responsive Psalm were #99, and scripture readings were from Exodus 24 and Luke 9. In the sermon, Rev. Fairley spoke of Moses coming down from the mountain with the tab- lets that the people saw the skin of his face shone - but Moses "put a veil over his face." The mystery of God's spirit and presence was hidden. Also inSt. Luke 9, the transfiguration is described. Bruce and Marilyn Searle of Kedron visited with Ruth Ash- ton on Sunday afternoon. John Warner spent the past week in Vancouver on business and had the pleasant experi- ence of spring with the presence of tulips, daffodils, etc. and nice green grass. We too will see those things in about one month (I hope). Tribute to Christie was very I am very proud to be a resi- dent of Durham Region and es- pecially Scugog Township see- ing the way we all paid special tribute to Yvonne Christie. All flags were at half mast. The me- . morial service was overflowing with people from all walks of life and from all places of the re- gion. The community thanks everyone for being so thought- ful and showing so much sin- cere sympathy to her family and friends. I called Dave Dietlein one evening and he is going through a tough period, although he says he feels better this week than he did two weeks ago. He faces the future with courage and he's confident he's going to beat the cancer this time. Good luck, Dave, we're all pulling for you. To all Ony and Jack Gould's friends I'd like to tell you they flew out to Vancouver and spent touching Christmas with their youngest son David and his wife. They had a great time and asked to be remembered to you all. I'spoke three weeks ago about Joan Pearce and her valiant campaign for the Big Brothers and Sisters in the bowling. I'm proud to say she has all her Disd ges in and hit the figure of 2,026.50. Great going, Joan. I finally got to the Auto Show but picked a bad period as it was not a school day. The crowds were overwhelming. However, it was a great show with some cars that I'll never be able to af- ford to purchase. Filled out lots offree lucky draw slips. Members of the Pine Ridge Garden Club, don't forget next Tuesday the pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. Nestleton Hall with a meeting and lecture to follow. Membership fees will be collect- ed for this new year, 1995. If you can look back on your life with contentment you have one of man's most precious gifts - a selective memory. Joke of the week: During an airline flight the attendant handed out gum to the travel- lers, saying it would relieve the pressure in the ears during the descent. After they landed, it took one passenger an hour to get the gum out of her ears.
