About 30 people enjoyed hockey or skating and warmed up on hot chocolate while munching on goodies. Sometimes the best events are those with the least prepara- tion. We welcome back from Flori- da, Jim and Marilyn Rushford who were away for three months, Fred and Muriel Tas- sie who were away for three weeks and Tom and Valerie Hunter and family who spent one week in the warm sung. Christina and Everett Pren- tice will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on March 18 at the Scugog Island a come- and-go from 2 to 4 p.m. and a dance in the evening at 8 p.m. Christina and Everett are long-time residents of the Is- land. In fact, they are still living on the farm where Everett was born! They have been very ac- tive in our community and they have watched our community change over the years. They have a wealth of history to share with us and we congratu- late them on their 50th anniver- sary. Relatives from out west are joining their family and hope friends and acquaintances will come out and enjoy this fes- tive atmosphere of this special occasion. Scugog Island Women's Institute Ladies of the Women's Insti- tute are reminded of their meet- ing on March 15 at 8 p.m. at the Island Hall. Helen Redman's niece, Karen Kewson from Bur- lington, will be the guest speak- er. Karen is the Curator of the Canadian Golf Assoc. Museum at the Glen Abbey Golf Course and she will be speaking on the importance of sports in our heri- tage. 2nd Scugog Parent Group The 2nd Scugog Parent Group will be sponsoring an April Fool's Dance on Saturday, April 1 at the Scugog Island Hall. For tickets, call Wayne at 985-0302. Proeeds will go to land. Scugog Island United Church The warm weather brought out a good crowd for our Sunday worship. George Barrass and Ryan Hamelinck participated in the Lenten Liturgy. The Youth Group participat- ed in the worship services at the Nursing Home and Villa on Sunday afternoon. They en- joyed a bowling party following the services. The Lectionary Bible Study will meet on Tuesday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. at S.I.U.C. Choir practice will be held on Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. The Grace UCW will be hold- ing their Ham and Scalloped Potato Supper at the Island Hall on Friday, March 17 at 6 p.m. Tickets are sold out. The Ladies' Bible Class met at the home of Joan Knight on Wednesday afternoon, with sev- en women present. President Aldine Wick chaired the meet- ing. The opening hymn was "Near to the Heart of God". Scripture John 14 vs 1-14 was by Lexie Pettus, medita- tion was titled "When Tears are Flowing" followed with prayer by Lexie. "Blessed Assurance" was sung. Sheila Parrott led in the Bible study from Psalm 42 vs 2. Refreshments were served and enjoyed by all present. The April meeting will be held at Lexie's home. Sorry I was unable to attend the meet- ingon Wednesday. I understand at the last Hor- ticultural Society meeting that three faithful members re- ceived a special honor. Dr. John McKinney and Chrissie and Margaret David were presented with life memberships for their fine contribution to the society through the years. As well, Mar- garet was presented with a love- ly book on lilies, for having served as treasurer for the past 16 years or more. Of course, Chrissie was unable to attend the meeting as she is still con- fined to hospital at the Whitby General. Rev. Sheina Smith returned to the pulpit on Sunday, follow- ing her vacation to Florida. Sharmen, Sheila and Moyra sang a lovely selection "Alle- luiah". Next Sunday, following the service which will be video- taped, everyone is invited to the Deakins for fun and refresh- ments. It's 'euchre night again on Thursday of this week at 8 p.m. at the Community Centre. Eve- ryone welcome. Elva Symes won the 50/60. There will be another euchre in two weeks, March 24. There was a good attendance at the mid-morning breakfast, on Sunday at Epsom Church, which was cooked by the men of the congregation. During the church service, Lynn and Hank Bertrand were 'presented with a going-away gift as they will be leaving the community at the end of March for their new ven- ture in Haliburton. Everyone wishes them luck, it certainly will be a new way of life for them. Church and Sunday School this week will be held in utica at 1la.m. Beth Catherwood of Oshawa visited with her mother Ruth Ashton a couple of days last week. John Warner's mother, from Niagara Falls, has been visiting with John, Suzanne and Lucas for several 'days. Bruce and Marie Geer were Sunday supper guests with son Randy, Carolyn and girls in Woodville. Lorne and Wileen Slute were in Cookstown recently to visit with son Brian and his famil It turned out to be a real family gathering as sons Ken and Bill and their families also were ere.
