Just when you've decid- ed he's strictly a comedian, he'll turn around and deliver an old country song in a way that is disconcertingly emotional. Hank's washboard, the "Stra- do'various," is festooned with bells, horns, pots and pans - even a duck-call. Folk's eyes bugs out when they see it, and their ears bug out when they hearit. Hank kicks, dances, and flails arms in a display of per- cussion wizardry which leaves 'em rolling in the aisles. Hank writes songs with titles like "Polyester Polly Lit a Tire Fire in My Heart" and "I'm a Honky Tonk Donkey from Co- boconk." It's clear that this man knows something about life that has escaped the rest of us.
