"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" DEN to host meeting on the dangers of chlorine Durham Environmental Net- work (DEN) will be holding a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. on March 23 at Durham College in Oshawa, when a panel of three - speakers will discuss, "The Ef- fects of Chlorine on the Great Lakes and Human Health." One week after their Feb. 23 LOSSA win, they came home from the Quinte Classic Invitational Tournament in Belleville with a big trophy that sits in a place of honor in the office. After competing against Trenton and playing Quinte High School twice, coach Mor- risson declared it to be a fun tournament and a great way to end the season. The CHS Student Council Tan a three day winter carnival last week. Three lunch hours were extended by a total of one hour so all could participate in or view the festivities. Several teams competed, including the Cartwright Alumni and Frosty, and non gender-specific snow- persons. Some of the events were the ever popular obstacle course, steamroll, and the bal- loon stomp. Due to time con- straints, the tug of war had to be omitted. The events were well attended and fun was had by all. Congratulations to all who participated. A reminder that tickets for the CHS Senior Band's Fund- raising Dance, April 22 will go on sale March 20, Tickets are $25 per couple. New country band The Dear Johns will pro- vide the entertainment. A speaker from Midland- Walwyn came to CHS on March 2 to speak to several classes about RRSPs, stocks, and other forms of investing. Before he left, he challenged all of the stu- dents present who were in- volved in the Toronto Star's Stock Challenge to surpass the returns of O'Neill Collegiate. A' prize was mentioned, and we all wish them luck. Believing there is a need for the public to gain a better un- derstanding of this complex subject, DEN has invited Dr. Jack Vallentyne, scientist and former Canadian Chair of the Great Lakes Science Advisory Board; Liz Armstrong, co- author of Whitewash and mem- ber of the Women and Environ- ment Education and Develop- ment (WEED) Foundation; and a representative of the interna- tional citizens' coalition Great Lakes United to speak about it in Oshawa.
