At back are coaches Novices play final games in tournament The final games ot the round robin series for the Novice House League were played last Saturday. Port Perry Printing and Van Camp were on the ice for the 6 a.m. start. The first five minutes were spent in the Printing end zone. Jesse Misch- tian scored his first goal of the day for Van Camp as he picked up a pass from Russell Jackson and put one over the glove side. Tyler Martin scored a couple of minutes later as he went end to end for his first goal of the day. The Port Perry Printing team has been passing the puck well the last few games of the season and the line of Norman Rooney, Tim Ouellette and Taylor Meek- championship games. Gamblers vs Blazers Game one saw a "huge upset" of the playoff season to date as the Crandell's Gamblers de- feated the Harrison Blazers 2-1. Both teams had but a few reserves on the bench but it was the Gamblers with the intense effort to "dump" the League Champions and gain their first points of the playoff season! Granted Harrisons were without team leader, Jim Beatty but give the Gamblers credit for an excellent game! Mark Decosta led the Gambler crew with both goals while Carl Durham set up each tally and Bob Partington had the single assist in this John Harman from David Roth was the lone Blazer reply late in the final frame as the Blaz- e pressure in search of the tie. Devils vs Aces Game two saw the Pizza Delight Devils vault into a first place tie with the Fitzgerald Clip- pers by downing the Taylor Aces 3-1. The teams played tight hockey throughout the first riod until a goal by Ken Smart Jr. from Bill Foote and Brian Stevenson put the Devils in the lead. This victory put the second place just one point behind the Devils and Clippers thus putting real interest to the Charger snipers Bill Bridge and Jason War- ner both had a goal and an assist to lead the at- tack. This game proved to be a see-saw battle as both teams skated hard in search of the elusive two points. Just when it looked like a tie was in or- der, Peter Lane got a great bounce and went in to score the Hawk winner from Carl Durward. The Hawks were led by Ritchie LeFort, Carl Durward and Doug Suppelsa as each notched a | goal and an assist in this outing. Keijo Kinnu- nen added two assists and Lane's winner round- ed out the scoring to keep the Hawks in the hunt with seven playoff points. For the Sharks, Phil Cochrane blasted a pair with Gary Lance adding the single. Wayne Fox had a irong game assisting on all three goals che, Scott Davis and Greg Fitzge- rald each got credit for single helpers. Phantoms vs Comets Game five saw the Pineridge Phantoms get back to their winning ways with a 4-1 victory over the Compton Comets. The Comets were fresh from a victory last week, but the Phantoms proved to be just too powerful a three goal lead early into the second period. Brian Samis, Clarence Stephenson, and Bill Van Camp each had a Phantom goal and an as- sist in this one. Kevin Gloster made a great pass to Justin Sanders late in the peri- od but was stopped by Tyler Webb between the pipes for the Van Camp team. In the third period Mark Vernest came out flying and picked up a natural hat trick. Darryl Copithorn had a nice shot on the net and Mark picked up the rebound to get his first goal. His second was on a back- hander on a scramble in front of 'the net. For his third goal, Tyler Martin made a great pass from the corner and Mark scored on another backhand. Kevin Gloster scored the lone al of the period for the Print- ih team ona nice pass from Bill Britt. This line including Craig Simmonds have been the puck really well the last few games and they look like they could be a force to be reckoned with in the final game. Brad Layzell for Port Perry Printing deserves a round of ap- plause as he has had to go be- tween the pipes for his team as their goalie is out due to illness. Brad has played well and helped fot them to the champi- ons nal of the tournament here in Port this week. Way to go, Brad. Haugen's and Re/Max took to the ice for the second game of the day. Re/Max opened the scoring up when Jesse Mullins broke away at his own blue line on a pass from Darren Tapper to score on a backhand. Hau- gen's answered back late in the period when Justin Cottrell made a nice pass to Matt Kam- icked up. assing minga who scored the first of his - goals for the day. Kyle Geer took over the goal- tending duties for the Re/Max team and came up with a split 'save to get the period going. Mitch Sauder picked up the uck on a breakaway and Sam Bennett at the other end came up with areas pad save. . Jesse Mullins scored his sec- ond goal of the game on a hard wrist shot with the assist goi to Cory Mitchell. Less than seconds later, Craig Kehoe put the Re/Max team out in front by two goals as he took a shot from behind the net that hit the back of the goaltender and dropped behind the line. The line - of Blake Cunningham, Jesse Mul- lins and Chris Milligan were really hustling and passing the uck well in this period for the Re/Max team. Joseph Kozlin- sky, Darren Black and Steven Guthrie for the Haugen's team passed the puck well in this pe- riod and had some great sco chances.
