They got as far as the front door and were overcome by smoke. She has been a resi- dent of our village for about 256 years and lost her husband about 10 years ago. We regret to - say. she does not have any im- 'mediate family living here in Canada. Another case - Remember I wrote a few weeks back about putting men on the moon and we are unable to build fireproof and smokeproof furniture, rugs and drapes. Something is wrong! We encourage everyone to be very cautious of our ice on the lakes and rivers. It has not been a very cold winter and we did 'bidding motorized vehicles in township parks and yet we still have: them in Putsey Park which is a Township of Scugog Park. I spoke of the $200 re- ward offered for anyone giving us the necessary information for a conviction, I did receive in- formation on two offences but not a conviction as yet. You the residents have supported us on the improvement of the park. Why allow this destruction to take place? Ruts! Ruts! Ruts! Firemen, don't forget your as- sociation meeting this Sunday. Saying of the week: It is easy enough to be pleasant, When life flows by like a song, But the man worthwhile is the one who can smile, When everything goes dead wrong. For the test of the heart is trouble, And it al- ways comes with the years, And the smile that is worth the praises of earth, Is the smile that shines through tears. . by Ella Wheeler Wilcox Joke of the week: A man was telling a friend about his wife being so angry with him when he's out late with the boys. He said he's tried everything so she won't wake up. Cuts the engine on the car a half block away and coasts in. Unlocks the door si- lently, removes his shoes at the door, tiptoes up to the bedroom and she always wakes up and starts yapping. His friend said, I go in, slam the door, put on all the lights, march up to the bed- room, get in to bed and give her a big kiss, and then I say "how about a little smooch for your old man?". And what does she say, hig friend asked? "Oh, she always pretends she's sleep- ing." : Ball players: don't forget registration Friend We Have in Jesus" at the church service on Sunday.
