As they did in games one and two they came out flying. After a few shifts went by they began to slow down. Riverside had many chances but Techstar goalie Doug Short was spectacular as he was most of the year. Some interesting but effective coaching by Dave Jamieson and Dunc Ferguson paid off as Adam Brain played his first game on forward in ages, tipped a Troy Campbell shot past the goalie to take the lead. Dave Kamminga also assisted. Early in the second, Dan Lyons made it 2-0 with ~ assists to Brain and Campbell. On the next shift Dave Gainey and Ryan Puckrin went in on a two on one. Gainey went in and got the goalie and defencemen out of position and gave the puck to Puckrin who just deflected it in for a 3-0 lead. Riverside finally got on the board as they nar- rowed the gap to 3-1. The Techstars got that one back as Puckrin threw one up the middle to Dan Lyons who went in alone and put it home. Riverside came right back with another goal to make it 4-2. Late in the second, Brain scored again making this one his first two goal game of the season. Kamminga and Lyons assisted. At flood time after two periods the Techstars lead All-Ontario championship 5-2. Early in the third Dave Gainey passed it to Troy Campbell at the point who hammered one by the Riverside goalie who never saw a thing for his 30th goal. 6-2. Riverside refused to give up as they got another one to make it 6-3. Kamminga and Lyons hooked up to make it 7-3 as Kamminga went upstairs over the goalie. Riverside still would'nt quit as they got one more to make it 7-4. Dillian Weber rounded out the scoring as Scott Sanderson assisted to make it 8-4. The Techstars killed the final five minutes to be- come Ontario champions. Goalie Doug Short Turn to Page 23 Big V win the Peewee h.l. championship Season-long rivals La- rocque and Big V faced off Saturday morning to de- cide the PHL champion- ship. In their last playoff contest, Big V had skated away with a hard-fought 6-1 victory. Big V's Billy Carr opened the scoring after a nice setup by Clayton Dales. Mark Delaney set up Jeff Harrison who made no mistake as he ri- fled a shot past Ken Lukas to tie the game early in the second period. Jeff Harri- son's second marker of the game from Mark Delaney put Larocque in the lead for the first time in the game. The Larocque one- goal margin stood for just 11 seconds as Billy Carr put the finishing touches on a terrific solo effort to knot the game at 2-2. Chris Medford set up Billy Carr to give Big V a 3-2 lead less than a minute later. Carr's hat trick sparked his club and Clay- ton Dales set up a nice goal by Rodney Bond to end the second period. Larocque's netminder John Barton and Big V's goaltender Ken Lukas were spectacular in the third as they turned aside shot after shot. Larocque's John Banders brought his squad within one after a set-up from Jeff Harrison (Harrison's third point of the game). Larocque pressed hard for the equa- lizer but a solid effort by the Big V defensive corps and Lukas between the pipes shut down their big guns. . Big V skated to the PHL championship in a tre- mendous action-packed game. Most sportsman- ship trophies were pre- sented to Larocque's John Barton and Jeff Harrison and Big V's Billy Carr and Mike Wadsworth. Big V captain Tim Wray was presented with the league championship trophy dur- ing a ceremony at centre ice. It was a superb game to end what has been a ter- rific season. Have a great summer, fellas, and we will see you in the fall.
