J&D Trophy "C" Champions Pineridge Phantoms ~ Championship games in the SHL just couldn't be any better as the fans got yet another treat to great hockey in this final lmatchup between the Pineridge hantoms and the Pizza De- light Devils. Once again, it was typical playoff hockey as these two teams hit the arena spot- light. Forget about the last time these squads faced each other in the playoff round. For this game, all players put on their game faces for great entertain- 4+ ment. Midway through the first period the Phantoms hit the scoreboard on a goal by Wayne Hancock from Clarence Ste- phenson and Lee Steeves. The Devils pressed and final- ly knotted the score at one apiece early in the second on a tally by Ken Smart Jr. from Bill Foote and Tim Ashbridge. Just when it looked like this one was surely headed for overtime, Brian Samis potted a rebound assisted by Bill Van Camp and Steve Fox to put the Phantoms up one. For the last 1:47 the Devils stormed the Phantom Zone but goaltender Shawn Parker stood tall and the Phan- toms went on to take the 2-1 vic- tory and "C" Division honors. Game Stars: B. Smith MVP Goaltender Award - Shawn Parker; M. Driscoll MVP For- ward Award - Bill Foote; R. Moase MVP Defence Award - Mike Geer. Compton Trophy'D" Champions Compton Cadets With sponsor Ron Compton's trophy on the line, the Compton Comets had a little extra incen- tive as they took to the ice to play the Van World Sharks in this Championship game. The Sharks had closed out the round robin format in fine form last week and the Comets knew they would have to grab a quick, lead to win this one. As per the game plan, the Comets launched from the opening draw to build a three- goal lead before the Sharks' lone reply in the first period. With one in the second and a couple in the final frame, they were able to hold off the Shark attempt at a comeback and cruised to a 6-4 victory to take the "D" Division honors. This game, as you can see, featured great scoring as well as end-to-end action mixed in with a parade to the penalty box, to give the fans a different look to championship hockey compared to the tight checking in the other games. Dave Dickson led the Comets with two goals and three as- sists. Teammate Willy Edwards had a great game as well with a hat trick and one assist. Mike McQuade added the other goal while Roger Moase, Terry Fliel- er, Paul Goreski, Brian Burns and Tom Barnes made the sco- resheet with single assists. For the Sharks, it was Phil Cochrane with four assists, Steve Conners with two goals and two assists and Wayne Fox with two goals and one assist, providing the scoring. Game Stars: W. Taylor MVP Goaltender Award - Wayne Lown; J. Grosvenor MVP For- ward Award - Dave Dickson; SHL. MVP Defence Award - Tom Barnes. SHL"E" Champions Taylor Aces "Le Bowl" Winners for 94-95 Crandell Gamblers As in any league, there re- main two teams to play for the tail-ender award! All champion- ship games have teams playing their best for the victory, but this contest holds special inter- est, since no team wishes to lose, and thus win the special 'Super Bowl"! Enter the Taylor Aces and the Crandell Gamblers to the arena to go head-to-head in this year's . "fan favorite". Right from the start, it was evident that team sponsor Wayne Taylor and team rep. Ken Little did not want any part of new lawn ornaments for the summer, and the Aces ex- ploded to a four-goal lead! Rick Campbell netted a pair while Mark Pehlemann had a goal and an assist. "Legend" Shee- hey added the other as Al Bon- ner, Wayne Taylor and Dave Brownson had single assists for the Ace scoring thrust. The Gamblers did manage a single reply in the final frame as Mark Burger scored from Ken Jeffrey but that was all as the Aces dodged the bullet and the Jamblers went "flush" for 94- 95! Game Stars: SHL. MVP Goal- tender Award - John Moore; SHL. MVP Forward Award - Rick Campbell; SHL MVP De- fence Award - Wayne Norton. With the games out of the way, it was time to attend the social windup at the Scout Hal! for bragging rights and the final hardware for the season. The Harrison Blazers were awarded the Re/Max Trophy and golf shirts for their first place honors inlea eplay. The Executive Trophy for the season's outstanding goaltend- er went to Shawn Parker. The Grosvenor Trophy for the league's top scorer went to John Harman. The Ross Page Memorial Plaque presented by Van Camp Construction went to Clarence Stephenson. This year's Arnold Taylor League Most Valuable Player Trophy went to a most deserving Ken Harman. Last but certainly not least, the Lucky Draw saw Jim Park win free entry to next year's SHL. That wraps it up for the 13th season in the SHL. Thanks to our sponsors, our officials, our fans and our players for another super hockey season. Just think, September and the 14th season are just a few short months away! NOTE: The Annual Auto Glass Hockey-Baseball Tourna- ment May 26, 27!
