Pictured are some of the main characters. Kids are a-hopping Utica Community Daycare will be a-hopping on Tuesday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m. for the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. of Canada's Hop-A-Thon. They have been getting ready for their two-minute hop-a-thon. Their lovingly hand-crafted bunny ears headbands are - ready and so are the children. This is a fun activity for the children which combines learning about the disabled, counting skills, co-ordination and learning of the gift of help- ing others. The youngest hop- per is 18 months old and the oldest is four years old. They hope to raise over $200 for the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. For further information, call Roxanna at the Daycare. Holy week services at the United Church are as follows: April 13 - Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m. at Goodwood; April 14 - Good Friday at 11 a.m. at Epsom; April 16 - Sunday Sunrise service at the Shier's farm (south of Goodwood Church) followed by a muffin breakfast at the church; Easter Service will be held at Utica at 11 a.m. Ca On Saturday evening there will be a Jack and Jill at Utica Hall starting at 8 p.m. for Paul Kerry and his bride-to-be Nancy Velluso. For tickets, call Glen Kerry or Rob McClure. There were 14 tables of euchre played on Friday night in Utica. Winners were: Ladies First Ruth McDonald, Second Norrine Hill, Third Kay Brown. Mens First Irwin Kydd, Second Don Linton, Third Malcolm Allbright. Most lone hands, tied with six each, by Bill Butters and Jean Pogue. Freeze-out winners were Ruth McDonald and Carolyn Parish, Jean Drake and Irene Redshaw were second. Draws were won by Bruce Houghland, Art Parratt and Elsie Pogue. Alvin Spencer won the 50/50. There will be another euchre in two weeks, April 21. A big happy birthday to Sean Sutherland whose big day was last week, April 5. Sean is now four years old. I'm pleased to report that Grace Kirk is now home from hospital and progressing slow- ly, but nicely. Our sympathy to Barry Bushell and family on the recent passing of his father. Services were held Monday, in Port Hope. Arnold and Gail Kerry recently spent a couple of weeks in Florida, returning home with Gail's brother Wayne and their mother Bertha, just in time to see that last snowstorm that hit us. Jean Scott spent several days last week visiting with her mother Mrs. Crosier. Tickets are Good Friday service at Burns Ashburn Florence Ashton A Good Friday service will be held at 11 a.m. at Burns Church. Easter Sunday morning, breakfast will be prepared and served by the men in the con- gregation from 8:30 a.m., fol- lowed by the celebration of the Lord's Supper at 10 a.m. 5 for adults and $2 for children and are avail- able at the church or Ashburn store. The Gospel Music Concert is fast approaching, featuring the Sellwoods and Marlene O'Neill. Date April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Burns Church. The Women's Missionary Society held their monthly meeting on Wednesday at the home of Bernice Gardner. President Ruth Oliver chaired the meeting and opened the meeting with a call to worship. Ray Death was in charge of the devotions, opening with the singing of "Jesus, Stand Among Us" and special thoughts on the 23rd Psalm. Ruth continued with our Bible study on James, Chapter 2. Lovely refreshments were served by our hostess and a nice friendly chat over the tea cups. The Ladies Bible Class will meet on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the home of Lexie Pettus. Euchre results are as fol- lows: 13 tables were played at the last euchre party. Ladies first prize went to Margaret Gall, second Grace Hop ins, Mens first prize to Ray Porter, second Art Richardson. Next euchre on Thursday, April 13 at 8 p.m. Jim and Elaine Ewing of: Orangeville and son Eric visit- ed with Elaine's parents Theo and Joan Knight recently. Several of the Ashburn ladies attended the pot luck supper at Brooklin United Church on Tuesday evening. Happy Easter! Spring brings busy weekends Blackstock The past weekend was very involved for many families with several events taking place. On Saturday the Caesarea Spring Bazaar was a success. Many from this area attended and found many items of inter- est to them. The Pine Ridge Garden Club hosted an International Smorgasbord on Saturday evening at Nestleton Hall. A large crowd enjoyed the large variety of dishes from many lands. The Curling Club Annual Banquet and Awards Night was held at the Recreation Centre. President Mark Graham welcomed the curlers and their spouses after which Grace was said by David Shearman. A delicious Greek style dinner was prepared and served by Mona and Angelo Parousses.of Purple Hill who own a restaurant in Brooklin. Lawrence VanCamp thanked Mona and her helpers. Mark reviewed the year's activities. Jodie Duff read the minutes of last year's meeting and gave the treasurer's report. This sparked a discussion on ways to attract more curlers and more revenue. It was decided to hold a meeting for all Curling Club members in late August or early September to further discuss various proposals.Ron Vice presented Richard VanCamp with a prize for the "Draw to the button - Richard was only four away". Ron also expressed his appreciation to Bob Strong and Vern Sutton for the excellent ice throughout the season. He concluded with ten expressions of curling. Barb Stead presented prizes to the winners of the Mixed League. Winning the trophy and first place was the team of Doug and Karen Kadowaki, Dave and Marg Fielden with 82 points. In his remarks, Doug, in addition to thanking the executive, thanked Bob and Vern. He said that Blackstock curling ice is as true as most of the many rinks he has curled on. Second place went to Dave and Marg Fielden, Ian and Joy Rudkin with 78 points. The prestigious Suggitt Trophy. donated by Merlin Suggitt many years ago for the highest team in the men's league was won by Cameron Porter, Fred Ford, Bill Shepherd and Rob Knowlton. The election resulted in the following slate of officers for next year: president Carol Gray; vice-president Fred Ford; secretary Lori Aldred; treasur- er Jodie Duff; rep. for mixed league Barb Stead; mens league reps. Ron Vice and Bill Shepherd. he 560/60 draw was won by Chris Duff. The evening concluded with a social time. The Pancake Brunch held at the Blackstock United Church on Sunday morning was a great success. 3 The Good Friday service for the United Churches will be held at Nestleton on Friday morning at 11 a.m. Easter Sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday morn- ing at the home of Steve and Deanna Grove on Church St. West and morning service at the regular time of 10 a.m. There will be a community bridal shower in honor of Heather Rowntree, bride-to-be of Bryan Green, on Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at the Parish Hall of St. John's Anglican Church. Glad to report that Scott Leach is improving following his serious truck accident a few weeks ago. His many friends wish him continued improvement. Louise and Jeff Carroll, Anna and Sophie of London. spent the weekend with her arents Richard and Ruby anCamp. On Sunday Ruby and Richard hosted a pre- Easter dinner when Lois and Glen McLeod and family of Orono, Lawrence and Jan VanCamp, Jill VanCamp of Kingston, Mrs. Margaret VanCamp and Doreen VanCamp all joined for a time together. Lr' Don and Marjorie Green hosted a family gathering when all members of their family were home to celebrate both Robert and Richard's birth- days. Happy birthday, guys. Wilma VanCamp was taken for a holiday by her daughters Cindy Werry and Debbie Showler along with Joan Graham for a trip to Las Vegas. This was the celebration of @ "special" birthday for Wilma shortly. They report having a great time of celebraion. Of interest to many of our local ladies is the fact that Dorothy McHarg will be mov- ing next Saturday from Port Perry to her former home of Kingston. Best wishes go with you, Dorothy. ° Fair Board members are reminded of the regular Fair Board meeting this Thursday evening, April 13 at the Recreation Centre. There were 11 tables at the weekly card party with the fol- lowing winners: Thomas Manns, Elwood Manns, Vi. Linton, Vera Fawns, Marie Geer, Stuart Dorrell and Jean Porrill. Luck draws were won by May Shortridge, Don Linton, Marie Geer, Merv Storrie, Mary Finney and Meta Swain.
