The 1995 budget expenditures and revenue estimates each total $157,938,2783, a 7.67 per cent increase over 1994. The actual mill rate increase if 0.63 per cent. The Board will be using reserve funds to help offset the costs of debenture pay- ments and to help eliminate the need for additional debentures. Despite its continuation of adding pupil places in new building projects, no additional bor- rowing is planned for this year. While Oshawa will see a 0.56 decrease in its mill rate, Brock will see a 2.84 per + cent increase in its mill rate. Scugog supporters willexperience a 1.6 per cent increase. "It is a good budget, considering the lack of funds from the province and the continuing growth that is facing the region," a Separate School Board Trustee Kathy LeFort. The Separate School Board budget was brought in "dollar for dollar" with the public board, Mrs. LeFort said. The increase will provide for capital building projects, including three new schools and additions to two schools in Uxbridge and Ajax. The increase is also to allow for pupil growth and corresponding increases in staff as well as supplies and services. Program improvements were also high on the priority lists as provisions have been made for techological studies, religious education and family life, core French, French Immersion, funding for staff development in the areas of conflict resolution and positive classroom disci- pline. Three spe- cial Commemorative 43 cent stamps are to be re- leased to celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth. Five million sets of the stamps are to be re- leased for sale in Septem- ber in post offices across Canada. Co Dr. Lee made the an- nouncement at last Thurs- day's meeting of the Lake Scugog Historical Society. One stamp shows a like- ness of Palmer while one features the symbol for Chiropractic and the third contains a photograph of the old railroad station in Port Perry. Dr. Lee as- sured the audience that the name Port Perry on the station would be clear- ly visible. The photograph of the Port Perry railroad sta- tion is a familiar one to many. The station used to be in Palmer Park. The railway made its final run from Palmer Park in 1939 to take youngsters and adults to Toronto on the occasion of the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the present Queen Mother. After the final run, the station was turned 90 de- grees and pushed back to the west side of Water Street and remains today Word was received last fall that the stamps to mark the anniversary of Chiropractic would be is- sued after lobbying by the Chiropractic College and Scugog Township. The proposal was initially re- Jected by Canada Post.
