He was one of a number of artisans who came to the Island to display their wares. Terry, Tara and Bailey Taylor were Easter weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Taylor in Cumbermere. a The family of Roy and Edith McLaughlin enjoyed an Easter family party at the Cadmus Country Club. The highlight of the afternoon for the children was the appear- ance of the Easter bunny. The family also celebrated Edith's birthday. 'The bridal shower for Heather Rowntree at St. John's Anglican Church was well attended. After opening many lovely gifts, Heather replied fittingly. A delicious lunch and social time fol- lowed. Heather is the bride- to-be of Bryan Green. There were 10 tables of eu- chre players at the weekly Senior Citizen's Card Party in the Old Town Hall on Tuesday./ Winners were: Ma- rie Geer, Roy Werry, Vivian Kydd, Louise Lowery, James Emerton, omas Manns and Vera Fawns. Lucky draws were won by Ruby Smith, Kaye Biggs, Roy Wer- ry, Bernice Appleton, Nor- man Rohrer, and Charlie Stapleton. The Annual General Meet- ing of the Blackstock Figure Skating Club was cancelled due to lack of attendance. It has been rescheduled to May 3 at 8 p.m. in the Town Hall. Attendance is essential. Plan to attend this very important meeting. The Blackstock District Li- ons' tenth Annual Farmer's night was held on Wednes- day evening. President Don Chiff called the meeting to or- der and after O Canada, the Toast to the Queen, Grace Good crowd out for auction and introduction of the head table a delicious chicken din- ner prepared and served by the Lioness members assist- ed by the Pathfinders and Rangers. Alex Shepherd, MP for Durham introduced the guest speaker Lyle Van- Clief,, MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture. Lyle gave a very comprehensive talk on the challenges and opportunities facing todays farmers. He also discussed Canadian Farmer's problems as seen in the global picture. Lyle sup- ported his speech with many facts and statistics. Lion Blair Martyn thanked Lyle with a token of apprecia- tion. The Cartwright High School sponsored a very suc- cessful dance on Saturday evening. With the various ac- tivities the required amount of money was raised to pay for the band's trip to the In- ternational MusicFestival. Winner of the television was Karen Yellowlees. Good luck is extended to the band as they compete in this competi- tion. The annual Talent and Dream Auction will be held at the United Church on Fri- day, April 28 beginning at 7:30 p.m. A large variety of items will be auctioned off by Har- vey Graham. Do plan to at- tend this fun event where you might see your neighbor pay $10 for half a dozen of wil. ma's butter tarts! I believe spring has sprung. This revealing and unfolding that comes silently and beauti- ful as the dawn. The green earth - the bursting bud appear- ing - new tides of life gently flowing through earth and sky around us everywhere. When the sky is blue and the sun is shining, it feels great to be alive! Family Interests Marg Baumchen of McKee Road spent a most interesting afternoon with her neighbor Neta Fish, recently of Edgerton Road. It is a fine thing to be neighborly - gives one a great lift! Neta Fish and yours truly had a joyful Easter celebration - a delightful luncheon at the Cadmus Country Club. The food was delicious and a great number of folk were on hand cel- ebrating this special occasion! Nestleton United Church The pot luck supper held on Saturday evening in Nestleton Church was well attended and most enjoyable! Sunday Service Greeters at the service - "the second Sunday of Easter" were Linda Arbuckle and daughters. Rev. David Shearman con- ducted the service with a splen- did attendance of worshippers. He opened with the call to wor- ship followed by a hymn and confession. Karen Yellowlees was the organist. "A Renewal Faith" when Colleen Arbuckle, Marilynn Hellen Arbuckle and of Baptismal Alison Melissa Malcolm re- newed their baptismal faith conducted by the minister. After his splendid sermon Rev. David Shearman held the Sacrament of Holy Communion with Clerk. of Session Richard MacKenzie and Elder Arnold Williams assisting. After the Communion prayer followed by all repeating it in unison. The choir trio Kate, Regenia and Shirley sang a fine number with Karen at the pia- no. Service closed with hymn "Teach Me God To Wonder," Benediction and singing "until we meet again." Offering re- ceived by members of the Ar- buckle family. Cancer Campaign With just another week to complete the Cancer canvass - please give what you can when the canvasser calls at your door. It is most important! The can- vassers are working very hard to have a very successful cam- paign and we need the help of everyone. We urge you people throughout the Township of Scugog to support the Cancer Drive - we each can play a part to get rid of this dreaded dis- 'ease. Cancer can be beaten if we all try hard enough! Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi 1182-1226 A.D. Nestleton Presbyterian With Church ith an average attendance, Rev. Wm. Fairley conducted the regular service in Nestleton Presbyterian Church. The or- ganist was Joyce Taylor and ushers were Graham Ham and Oliver Rohrer. Responsive Psalm was No. 150 and Scripture was from I Kings 17, and St. John 20. Rev. Fairley spoke on the questions which were answered in the Psalster - Where - When - Why - and Who, we should wor- ship. In spite of doubts, we live by faith!
